Happy New Year! 2026 has arrived and with it a host of top level cycling to watch and get involved in.
The Westbridge Funds 2026 AusCycling Road National Championships kick off in the coming week with the time trials and criteriums, followed by the road races next weekend. Good luck to those competing. If you aren’t competing be sure to get out and support those taking part – it was a fantastic spectacle last year and promises to be bigger and better this year!
To celebrate the Road Nats you may have seen that AusCycling has teamed up with DÔME Coffees at Westralia Plaza to shout a coffee for the first 100 people through the door on Saturday morning – free coffee. What a great incentive to jump up to a faster group this weekend…it is Step Up Saturday!
January also sees the Tour Down Under raced in and around Adelaide. As usual there will be a contingent of SPR riders making the pilgrimage. If you are interested in making the trip as well have a look at the link further down the page.
Tour of the Blackwood 2026 — Registrations for the Rotary Tour of the Blackwood River 28 March 2026 are now open. The Full Tour meanders some 130km through stunning countryside between beautiful Bridgetown and the magical townsites of Balingup and Nannup, and features over 2000m of climbing including a Category 4 ascent toward the finish line. There is also a 65km distance (elevation ~841m) or 30km. New in 2026 is a gravel 88km adventure ride – ebikes included. This is an excellent event, with a great community atmosphere and well-marshalled roads- definitely one to consider. If interested you will need to book accommodation as soon as possible as limited availability.

Take this opportunity to see where your riding is at and STEP UP and have a go at riding with that next group above your usual Saturday ride.
At SPR, we encourage riders to have a degree of self-sufficiency to cover: punctures, loose bolts, etc, that may arise whilst on a group ride.
