This weekend, 13 to 15 November, Perth will host Western Australia’s premier road cycling event. The Tour’s 4 stages will take place in central city locations, ideal for spectators. There will be several national and international teams racing against some of WA’s best bike riders over 3 days of quality racing.
Some of our nearest and dearest will be giving their all for this event:
Lisa
Wood, Nicole Sloan, Davina Summers, Bec Halliday, Anna Kauffman and Jill Scanlan will be in the Women’s lineup.
Brendan Nichol, Steve Hedley, Matt Upton and Jack Campbell will be in the Men’s.
Sunday will also see THE FESTIVAL OF CYCLING taking place at Perry Lakes. Perth Integrated Health clinic is the proud sponsor of the festival that aims to promote cycling in Western Australia. Amongst many activities and exhibitions there will be:
- Cyclo Sportif Skills Session
- 4 club criteriums organised by the Northern District Cycle Club (support A & B for anyone
wanting to have a go). You can register here
- about 30 odd stalls and lots of activities for kids
SPR/South Perth Cycle Club is having a stall at the festival. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase our club and promote ourselves to the cycling community.
If you have a few hours to spare on Sunday get your SPR gear on and come down and help spread the word. We will have lots of SPR drink bottles and will be doing some power testing to see how we match up to the pros. If you can help out on the day in any way please leave your name in the comments. SPR brownies will be provided for all
volunteers 😉
All information on the Tour de Perth can be found on the website
So I guess most of us will be watching the TDP on sunday instead of Col De Kalamandeur. How about saturday? should we do a ride that goes east and then go up St George’s terrace to watch the road race?
Good suggestion but there will be a number of roads blockages to factor in.
Had also thought of asking Pete whether we could start the Sat ride half an hour earlier???
ok so can you please time it so when you go past you can give me a push up the hill……..apreciate it 😉
Pete, i’ll pop by on the day and help out with the stand for a bit
I will be helping out on Sunday.. When are the 4 * club crits?
Starting 30mins earlier would be good but may be a little too hard to communicate to all less than a week before the ride..
Being on bikes will be the best mode of transport on Saturday to get to the best vantage points..
I have just registered for the Mens B crit on Sunday…I’m sure I will get inspiration from watching the SPR crew in the real races. I will help at the stand either side of the crit.
So I am like looking at the start list and thinking what drugs was I on when I thought I could keep up with these Brutes….*Gulp*
I’ve registered for the support “B” crit as well. Happy to help out on the stand when I’m not riding.

That makes two of us Nico, at least i will look fast in my new SPR kit.
I’ll be happy to hang out at the stand for a couple of hours. Just let me know when you need the help and I can plan around. See you there.
Congrats to all who took part over the weekend an exciting weekend of cycling in Perth. It certainly looked tough out there, a fair few pained faces on Reabold Hill Sunday morning.
Very well done to Steve Hedley , a great race by him and he looked very strong out there during all the stages. A very commendable lucky 13th. Matt, where are the pics of you in the skinsuit? Thankfully non were snapped of me in the tri-suit, I definately need to grow some b*lls before wearing it in public (no pun intended)…
Thanks to all who helped in the tent on Sunday, an enjoyable day for all, there was plenty of banter and brownies for all… Great for the image of our club…
Thanks so much to everyone for the support over the weekend. It was great having what seemed like 50 people cheering our name’s as we were trying to get over those small but tough climb’s.
Well done to all involved it was great for the club and hopefully in the future we can get a few more out there having a go.
Skinsuit pics are copyrighted mate, apologies to all who got a glimps of me in it.
I felt fast if that helps in anyway.
Matty… u were a hottie in that skinsuit mate 😉
As I mentioned over the weekend, I see the need for an SPR calendar shoot very soon!
Congrats to all our SPR riders and friends out there over the weekend. What an effort! So proud 🙂
