Tuesday Transitional Ride

The Tuesday Transitional Ride will be on again this week. Scott and myself will be out there to help as required.
Make sure your loose items, such as lights and water bottles are well secured to prevent any bits and bobs from falling off en-route.

  1. Are lights essential for tommorow morning? If they are I’ll pass and get set up for next week.

  2. Yeah just tried fitting my lights from the mountain bike but they don’t fit. So will get some soon. But I think it should be light enough. Official sunrise at around 5:41 so it will be light by 5 I think. I have noticed its been getting little darker already at 5:30 when I normally head out but its no where near dark enough to require lights just yet so should be ok.

  3. Nathan,

I’m happy if you are. I was trying to do the same thing tonight, transfer my mountain bike lights over. Unfortunately they are for a 25mm bar and the roadie has 30mm bars. Next week I’ll get sorted properly. See you all tommorow.

  4. guys it is not that bad at 5:30. you really need lights to get to the start if you are riding there. once we get going it is pretty light already. just make sure you have a good rear flasher on.

  5. Ha sorry for the confusion team – no lights aren’t really required yet as per the admin post above. I was just referencing the last time when a light jumped off someones bike…

See you all in the morning!

  6. First of all let me say thankyou to the guys who helped me limp back to South Perth after I blew out, much appreciated. This is my ride report.

The ride down Mounts Bay Road and through Dalkeith was easy. I dropped my water bottle near some school which was promptly flattened by a car, lucky I had a second bottle. I think that Nathan dropped something as well. After the turn onto Stirling Highway, I and another guy (sorry not good with names first up!) moved to the front. It was all good with some mild hills and moderate head breeze down into Freo. Towards Stirling bridge I started to tire as Toby said that we could swap after the bridge. I thought, “oh yeah I can make it over there, no worries”, enthusiastic as ever! It was the trip across the bridge that the breeze picked up, my speed dropped and after slugging up Preston Point Rd hill, I was smashed.

Lesson learnt, drop off the front if you feel tired. I think that if I dropped off before Stirling bridge I might have been okay. I also know my limitation now which is good. Anyway I am still keen as ever and will be back again. It can only get easier from here!

    Thanks everybody.

  7. Yeah Dave my house key jumped out of my pocket while I was getting my sun glasses out. I needed the key so had to pull off. I fell off on the way to work today though. Not use to hurling a heavy bag of crap with me. Was a soft roll so only a small graze and the bike was fine. Sometimes I wish I had a button that would just unclip both feet in an instant.

  8. It was an eventful little outing we had this morning!

Scott was running a bit late, so after the main group rolled out I gave a quick briefing before Shaw and I lead the way down Mounts Bay Road. Scott caught up to us before we even hit the brewery.

It was pretty smooth sailing all the way through Dalkeith until we got to Queenslea Drive. Then almost as if on cue Dave dropped a bottle and Nathan dropped his keys. Funny how that keeps happening. Unfortunately the bottle didnt survive its encounter with a car that was coming up behind. Nathan keys faired better.

As Dave outlined above, he took a long turn down Stirling Highway. I was impressed at the time to be honest, but didnt realise that he had burnt all his matches in the process. Actually I think he may have bonked because from the turn onto Canning it was really hard going for him.

Luckily at this point two things happened. Firstly Shaw ‘conveniently dropped his chain just before the climb up Preston Point Rd. This gave some respite. Also at this moment the main group caught us and Dan lent a hand dragging dave back to the group. We had a quick regroup near Pt Walter and headed off again.

A quick trip over the back path to get to Dunkly Ave, then smooth sailing down to Kintail Rd. Shaw brought the pace up and needed to be breifly reigned in. Bike path down the freeway, over to Labouchere then Atomic for coffee.

Special mentions for Lynda and Tracey – big improvements noted.

    Sprint home

    1st – Lincoln
    2nd – Shawpedo
    3rd – Andrew

    See you next week.

  9. I enjoyed today’s ride much more than my normal Tuesday ride. Will be making the early start to come to this one each week. See you all Saturday and sunday.

  10. Special thanks to Dan today, but there was also another guy deserving that goes unmentioned that was hanging back as well. These two guys sacrificed their ride today to help me at half their pace, and it was much appreciated. They literally appeared out of no where. I would not have been offended if I had been dropped, but then I learnt that it was a “Black Hawk Down” ride!

Not withstanding, I will be okay for next week as I will roll off the front before I burn. I will also continue to train solo in the meantime to increase my capacity. I think that I found my max heart rate for the first time today and held it too long, then found out what happens.

    I’ll be back..

  11. Thanks Toby, i did actually arrive just as everyone headed off.
Was a slow start after my week away 🙂 Felt good to be back on the bike though.
The group is really going well and skills are improving greatly.
