CALLING ALL MOUNTAIN BIKERS!!!
To
those of
us whose love of cycling extends to off road pursuits, there is a great event coming up…
The Enduro Mountain Bike Series has it’s first event on the 11th April at Jorgenson Park in Kalamunda.
It is a 4 hour event which can be done solo or in a team of 2 or 3 people
Suitable for ANY level of ability (and ages 12 and
up)
Scott and Dave from SPR will be there flying the colours and it would be great to see a few more.
Rumour has it that SPR brownies may be making a comeback appearance for this event…
If you are interested (solo or team) leave your name in the comments below.
What sort of mountain bike, gears, pedals, cleats etc. would you guys recommend for such an event?
Any half decent MTB will do. Big wheels, suspension would make it more comfortable.
Gears are optional these days. Pretty much what u feel comfortable riding with really.
Do u already have a bike though or looking to get a new 1?
As for pedals, SPD or Eggbeaters are best, easy in/out and give u multi clipin options (not just 1 like roadie).
I am likely to enter as a solo. Just waiting to work out logistic issues with a bucks night that starts at lunchtime.
I am riding a regular Sunday morn in the hills from 6 or 6.30 through to 9.30/10am. If you want to join in let me know your mob on saturday and I will text start time / planned routes on Saturday nights. Alternatively I can be easily convinced to join others.
I’m looking to get a new one (one that I can also use to keep track of the Hale School Cross Country (running) team when I take them out training)… if she who must will let me.
For Mike (or anyone else interested). Check out Canning Bridge Cycles. They are having a sale on all mountainbike stock. Ask for Ross- the owner (a mate of mine).
May come join you for the ride (got to check work roster)
Mike, depending on your budget & intended riding style any of the LBS will have something for u that is suitable.
It will all come down to the type of riding and how much u want to spend.
Your looking at about $1k minimum for a half decent hardtail. In the above pictures u will see my brothers Giant, it was an entry level ride around that price. You may want to aim for the $1500-$2k mark to get a sweeter ride. Giant are a good all round bike and u normally get good bang for buck. From there u can go anywhere as long as the wallet(read SWMBO) will let u.
If you hit up Dave at TBE Belmont, he looks after SPR riders and can help you choose something to suit your requirments.
More info on the course here folks, including a map:

It’s based on the tracks/trails around the golf course. Quote, “The course is 6kms long and will be fast and fun for the experts and fun and not too technical for the beginner”.
