SPARTA AGAIN!!!

racing.  funny how often it is more about tactics rather than how strong you are.  boonen was strong.  really strong, but no-one wanted to work with him to chase down spartacus.  funny, how no-one wanted to help the sprinter pull back a break so that it came down to a sprint finish…anyway, it was a good race and confirms cancellara’s position as one of the best riders in the world.

next race is the amstel gold race this coming weekend.  a race sponsored by a beer company can mean only one thing.  crazy beer fuelled fans lining the course.  this will be a different kind of race so look for riders like the schlecks, sastre or cadel making more of an appearance.

oh, and a big thanks to SBS for giving WA a delayed LIVE telecast of the paris-roubaix.  with the winner actually crossing the line 2 hrs beforehand, it is such a consolation to know that we didn’t get to miss out on a couple of 3 yr old documentaries from the USA and UK.

  1. Yeh – what a con!! Was watching on justintv.com when the guys got over the 50km line and they start broadcasting “LIVE” from the 112km mark!! And what’s with the 15mins chat at the front end?? Bring on iinet TV.

  2. The coverage was a bit poor they didn’t mention the names of most of the front riders (except for the big name favourites) including the Kiwi rider Hayden Roulston who finished 10th (and he was coming off a cold). The commentator’s prep for the coverage was well below their De tour coverage.
Cancellara was a machine out there riding off the front of a class group of riders like that. Roulston summed it up well with his comment, ‘Cancellera though just made everyone look stupid.’

  3. cant believe tommy decided to sit fifteen wheels back on his main rival….very costly mistake as it turns out!

  4. shane – i know I couldnt believe it either – but you have to hand it to Fabulous, he jumped on the opportunity.

  5. yeah the F train was leaving….and T didn’t have a ticket. Felt sympathy for T as the Belgium public put massive pressure on him. It was good watching Fab pick up the front runners and pop them off with apparent ease…the defining moment for me was when leukemans (who was having a great day) waved his hand in disgust as he had to let the wheel go…nice!
