wa state road championships

the western australian state road championships are on this weekend.  if you came out on sunday, you would have got a good taste for what the last bit of the course is like as we did the finishline twice.

this event is different as it doesn’t have a support or ‘b’ grade event rather a masters division instead.  this means that the over 35’s can race in their own category and not have to worry about the young whipper-snappers.  however, if you are under 35 then you will have to race with the “a” grade men instead.

being a state title, the distances are a lot longer too.  open men is 157km while open women, u19 and masters men is 112km.  masters women (over 30) and over 55 men do 50km, although last year the numbers were too low and poor john had to race the 112km with the younger masters.  he did beat me though, so he didn’t do too bad. 🙂

so the flyer is linked below and you can register here before 7:30pm tuesday 24th aug.

for the masters it is usually a good turn out and i managed to get a silver medal here a couple of years ago and stu got bronze last year.

if you are entering, add you name to the comments so we know how much support will be in the races.

  1. I have entered. Was it only last year that I placed 3rd – seems like a lifetime ago! Not sure if masters is above 30 or above 35, but either way, that seems like a lifetime ago too. See you there.

  2. Yes Stu, it was only last year that you put in that great ride against much younger men. Although the form is not great, I’ll keep you company in the Masters race again. Jerry should enter too; he is climbing really well and should go like a urologist through a rabbit hole over the undulations of Brookton Highway.

  3. Damn, don’t worry Pete,it looks like you havent missed out at all.
Glad I didnt do any training for it or I may have been disappointed.

  4. Looks like I may be able to come Mountain biking after all, Ainsy, if you’re still going out. Athletics on Saturday morning at Hale may still be an obstacle, however, depending on timing.
On the State Champs front, they only had 53 entries across the grades, which is a bit of worry given the number of able cyclists in Perth.

  5. Mr Bonner, the more the merrier but there has been a change of plan….MTB now on Sunday midday. Meet at Atomic for Brunch and then head off for some dirt action….you in?

Word has it another member of SPR has joined the MTB scene…come on reveal yourself!

Special thanks to Simon at Cyclebuzz for arming the SPR crew with some stonking deals!
