I was involved in a bit of incident on Saturday ride with main group. We were riding along by pair on Great Eastan Hwy and there was a road work. They closed left lane using pilons. So we were riding carefully and slower the speed then changed into right lane. I was on a left and another cyclist was on my right. Suddenly a cyclist came from nowhere and took me over from inside( left hand side) and settled infront of me. That’s ok I managed that but wasn’t impressed with his behavior.
Nearly end of the single lane closed section he decided to changed the lane and went through between pilons. I followed him, simplely I didn’t think there was any pilons. I thought the road is clear and safe to do so. But there were still some there. A second later a big red cone was in front of me, I couldn’t avoid hitting. Luckly I didn’t fall off. the pilon was stucked between my left foot and frame and dragged 5m or more. I managed to steer to left so that riders behind of me don’t get involved.
It may not be his fault, he might also followed the rider infront of him as well. Or I might be my fault ? Because simplely I trust his action without making sure by myself?
My point is as title says “SAFETY is always the number one priority “. just because you have a ability to go through pilons everyone else can do, too? Everyone comes in different skill and avility. No one need to take any risks, safty first. Once again read our ride etiquette and signal and enjoy the rides! I almost hit the concrete island with bar from lack of hand signal same day.
yeah i know, i’m probably the worlds least qualified but…normal behaviour i would hope for from SPRer’s is to at the very least call out “CONES!!!”. that’s my 2 cent worth.
anyway nice save yas and gald to hear you didn’t go down. the last thing we need is our best mechanic being too busy fixing up his own bike 🙂
Shaw says its called doing a Nathan 🙂
