A huge thanks to the Support from SPR today, it made doing Maclom street that little bit easier… The two other guys I ended up riding with asked if there was anyone on the course that I didn’t know… Thanks for the drinks too…
Good photos Shaw.. 🙂 Same with the TT photos- nice photos… 🙂
Time for a Nap.. 🙂
I’d like to reiterate what Jason, Stu and others have said about the support today. Reading everyone’s names on Spring St. certainly took the mind off what was to come around the corner (and was quite amusing too). There were also quite a few other people calling out names around the course, especially in Kings Park.
The crowning glory was of course the top of Malcolm Street. The noise on our last lap was unbelievable – for an aged persons race around the centre of Perth. The wall of sound probably came close to the noise on one of those Spring classics cobbled hills. So a big thank you to everyone who came out to watch today.
One of the good things about our club is that you always have the sense that you are not just riding for yourself (even easier when Stu is in the breakaway with you and working like a Trojan). When we are out there I’m sure that most racers/riders feel that they are representing the club and all the other Rouleurs, and it is really gratifying the way that people take an interest in how you’ve gone.
Moreover, a big thank you to Pete (organiseur exceptionale) and all the regulars who make it very easy to train for events such as this. I’ve really enjoyed clocking up the extra kilometres needed to prepare for the UCI race with everyone in our group ride system: the extra laps of the river before the ‘real’ SPR ride, the Wednesday rides around the course itself etc.
See you out there. Tomorrow I might even stop for coffee.
Again another big thanks, especially those who picked us up on the tarmac literally. Those cold water bottles were so refreshing and the spr/names written on the road really did lift spirits as for the cheering and words of encouragement at the top of the hill. Again many thanks to Pete, always does a great and very unselfish job giving up his time to make the club as good as it is. Cheers SPR
I tell you what. I don’t think the non SPR riders enjoyed our comments any where near as much. If anything we might get a stack of new members and riders just because today we showed everyone else there what our club is about and how every member has the clubs full support behind them. From what I saw or have heard no other club or shop etc was out there backing their riders like we were.
The SPR support was incredible! A huge thank you to everyone that came along to support us and to Toby’s helpers with their fancy artwork on Spring St.
A Fantastic result for SPR and Mike Bonner with his second place. Will be awesome seeing an SPR jersey over in Europe for the final!
A big thank you to all who supported at the race. As a relatively new club member who is unable to attend many club rides, the support was somewhat unexpected. I was extremely grateful all the same. I look forward to returning the favour.
This support for fellow members is to me the great strength of SPR.
Special thanks to Peter for organising.
I would like to also thank everyone for the great support. All the people that chalked up, thanks. All the people that sat around the course, thanks. All the people at the top of Malcolm St, Thanks. To all those that couldn’t be there, but were cheering us on from afar, thanks. All those people that are any way related to the club and provide assistance, thanks. A special thanks to Pete, for organising things, Toby, for all his work organising the Kings Park Crew. Lennie, Johno, and the Chalkers, Jordan for acting as Bagman, and especially I would like to thank those people that allow us to do what we do, the spouses and partners. (Especially Kate Mah who supports the club through Pete).
Copngrats to all my fellow competitors, and a huge congrats to all the finished. I hope to finish next year, if I can stay upright.
@physikcalfitness Your welcome, I’m sure you would have done the same for Jen and I.
I think Anna & Jordan should get the most thanks – they walked up Mount Street with coffees for the crew. Now THAT is support!
Riding up Mount St is WAY easier than walking up it.
Going down is much much easier
Just wanting to say a big “thank you” the SPR team. I’m not a member and still don’t know a lot of you guys but have tried to keep up with you on many mid week rides.
Arriving at the top of Malcom St., I heard some encouragement but thought it was for some SPR members in front or behind me. (bit hard to concentrate when all the blood leaves your head to help the legs). Then I heard “go johnny drops” looked around and saw no-one else. Honestly the support was appreciated with so much gratitude, especially as each push on those damn pedals just got so much harder with every lap.
And hats off to those that gave it a go, hopefully I can keep up with you next year.
sorry mate, we only know you as “johnny in the drops” as we don’t know your last name. keep coming out with us though.
And that is now what you will always be known as, keep coming out with us, Johnny Drops!
Don’t apologise! ‘Johnny Drops’ is the best nickname ever!
