Via Twitter Mike Tomalaris has suggested the if voices are heard there could be some change, so WA viewers can see ALL cycling events LIVE. SBS do offer a live web stream however this is not reliable and bandwidth intensive. As an example eduring the TDU, Cameron Meyers home town was not able to follow the last stage live as the web stream wasn’t working. In this day an age of multimedia a delayed TV broadcast defeats the purpose of showing the race live. For Tour of Flanders, the race was run and won before our coverage had started.
Tonight is no different with the Paris-Roubaix being telecast live in the eastern states, but delayed to start at the same “time” in the west. There are 3 SBS channels which seem to just stream that same content as each other. There are opportunities for SBS to give us a better product but they need to be told what we want.

I was initially impressed with their highly personalised and thoughtful response on a Sunday morning as below…
Until I read that quite a few people who complained had exactly the same wordings, with a different first name as their “Audience Relations”.
“Dear Shaw,
Thank you for your comments regarding SBS’s coverage of the Paris-Roubaix. We have passed them onto the Sports department as viewer feedback.
The race will be screened at 10.20 pm all around Australia – rather than live everywhere.
If it were screened live it would cut into a film on SBS TWO or the middle of a documentary on SBS ONE which would upset non-cycling viewers.
However coverage will also be available to stream live on the SBS Cycling Central website: http://www.sbs.com.au/cyclingcentral/

The feed at http://www.sbs.com.au/cyclingcentral/livestream is actually pretty good quality. As opposed to last week when it was unusable.
the sbs online isn’t too bad, but i would rather watch it on my tv.
I am watching Toby’s stream on the telly. Pretty good but not full screen and adds offering dates with young chicks keeps popping up… Pfft, I am trying to watch the cycling not chat to tarts wearing no clothes… Grrr…
I may see what the sbs stream is like..
I’ve got the SBS feed up on the TV and it actually looks pretty decent. Not HD, but certainly watchable.
Thanks for the link Toby. Was watching it until the last 10km when I gave Cycling Central a go. Lo and behold it was pretty good. Maybe SBS are finally getting their act together.
yeah i ended up on the sbs feed too. eurosport slowed down in the last 15km or so. I think i like the eurosport commentators more though.
* oh yeah – what freakin awesome race!
