Where is everyone at 5.30am. Not in bed surely

The birds are chirping by 5.  The sky is bright by 5.15.   There are more cyclists than tradies in utes on the road at 5.30.  So where the bloody hell are you?

Andrew Wong had proposed a recovery (28kph) ride for sometime during the mid-week.  This is to cater for any spouses (who is selfish enough to demand a ride now and then) as well as the transitionals and main 2-2.5 riders.
I think either a Wednesday or Thursday morning will be ideal, and we will do the round-the-river by Cottesloe route.  What I need is for people to express their interest in the comments below.  So if there is any interest, speak up.  State your preferred day and time.

What's your preferred day and time for a recovery ride?

  1. The Thursday time option probably needs to get changed. Although, those that want a Thursday “Recovery” ride can always join in the Fast group…:P Remember that the Fast group goes from here at 5.30 as well. Might be advantageous to change it to maybe 5.45 to avoid any confusion that may result in Fast going with Recovery or Recovery going with fast.

    1. I am sure if they pick the wrong group they will get spat out before the other side of the narrows. Someone can also ask the question via verbal communication too before the fast group rolls out 🙂

  2. what about the option of a recovery ride around kings park, now the light is good? (regroup after hilly bits)

  3. at the moment, the best bet is to go for thursday morning. we used to have a group start just after the fast group and it could pick up dropped riders as they went round. this kind of died off over winter, but i see no reason for it not to start again.

i wouldn’t do it wednesday, as we are about to start up a competing wednesday ride for the UCI course again. we will see how it goes running both the ciao and uci together but the uci ride only has a limited life up till march next year.

    1. I’ll be there most weeks when the Wednesday 5:30 UCI course ride starts again. Hope to see Wongers and a few others in training for March out there (It was a very good event last year). Wouldn’t mind the option of a slower Thursday ride (as a change from the fast group) some weeks if Wednesday turns into a hard session.

  4. Sorry Shaw for any misunderstanding

“Carla’s Ride” is meant to be on Fridays 28km/h.

My mid Week is Tuesday SPR Main / Wednesday UCI or Ciao Italia / Thursday SPR Fast/Bell or Track.

  5. +1 for the Thursday option, knowing there is a second group coming through may encourage more to have a crack at the fast group, it helped me more than a few times last summer.
also looking forward to UCI on Wed, bring it…!!!!

  6. I’d like to come out on Weds Ciao Italia ride (fabulously flat & quick) – but have heard rumours that it no longer regroups after first shelleys hit out – it just keeps going (correct me if i’m wrong??) – so I’ve been a bit put off ;0( I have Tues/Thurs covered already since the Bell tower pace suits me fine. SPR Friday’s are awesome – so fortunately I have a few good ‘uns to choose from during the week already ;0) A recovery Weds ride would be noice tho’.

  7. given that if i do manage to get up early enough to ride at 5.30am i need a long nanna nap in the afternoon 5.30am rides are only an irregular weekend fling for me, so whatever idea i get into my head is probably purely academic… but i do like the sound of doing a hard Ciao ride or UCI laps on Wednesday then doing an easier cruise on Thursday.

with a total of 1 weekday 5.30am ride under my belt i probably don’t deserve a vote though 😉

  8. Its great to get such a good response!

Thursday morning 5:30am at the Narrows City Side for the recovery ride is back on. So see you guys there. We will start just a minute or two after the fast riders have gone and pick up the strays as we go.

As for Wednesday ride, we shall discuss amongst ourselves and see how that goes. Even with the UCI training coming up, I reckon there’ll be enough people who may prefer a more leisurely cruise.
