Little update on Laurie Crock, who crashed yesterday on the Public Holiday ride on Riverside Rd in East Fremantle. Laurie is still in Fremantle Hospital and sustained a compund fracture to his left collar bone. He went into surgery yesterday afternoon and had the break pinned and plated. He should be discharged from hospital tomorrow (Wed). Hope you get well soon mate.

Fingers crossed for a smooth and speedy recovery Laurie.
Crocky, From all the boys in the Office Keep your Eyes on the Prize Italian Lakes September 2012 Get well Real Soon….
Those stupid bollards on the edge of a bike lane next to a speed hump. total lunacy. Send the bills to Fremantle Council.
Ouuuuch. Heal quick Laurie.
Maybe you can ask them to engrave SPR on the plate before it goes in?!
PS. Contrary to popular belief, they do not set off metal detectors at airports!
totally stupid traffic management system they’ve put down there! i believe that raised curb and floppy rubber poles are there to stop bogans swinging around the speed hump but really, it’s not a safe solution for cyclists. it was hard to tell if that yellow curb was even a curb or just a paint road marking as we were approaching!
why is that council so intent on turning the whole place into an obstacle course!? I wouldn’t be surprised if one was to look at cyclist accident reports for that area that silly obstacles could possibly be cited as the cause more often than vehicles.
Heal fast Laurie!
And it was great to see everyone take on the situation and make sure Laurie was well tended to and an ambo arranged straight away.
Get well soon, Laurie.
Thanks to all for your concern, especially Greg, Stephan and Grant who looked after me, and my gear, after the accident. Not sure exactly what happened but ended up going over the kerb and through 3 orange, plastic bollards and landed on my shoulder, breaking my clavicle into 4 pieces and sending one piece out through my shoulder muscle. Did a good job!!! All fixed now with a plate and screws; 6-12 weeks recovery. Could have been much worse!
Thanks to SPR community – luckily it was a group ride with everyone looking out for each other.
I will keep in my mind a good “half” public holiday ride, and a great Saturday ride where Dan, Greg and Sato dragged me back into the city, as motivation to get out there again when it has repaired.
Please keep in mind yours and others safety, especially along that stretch of Freo – COF obviously don’t want bikes going through there quickly!! Once again, thanks to all and see you soon.
I think its East Freo and not Freo Council that’s responsible for this latest cycling hazard; if so then same Council that installed the Preston Point Road central traffic islands.
It would be good if letters started flowing into the Council following this latest incident – with a copy cc’ed to Main Roads.
Speedie recovery Laurie
