Well Saturday, 10th March 2012 saw the kick off to the BWA CycloSportif series in Margaret River for 2012. I managed to round up some Fast Boys, Andrew, Alistair, Mark and Matthew (a.k.a Buttercup) and together we flew the SPR flag, competing in the A Grade distance. It was hot and it was windy but we still managed to place 5th overall (37 A Grade teams), completing the 110kms ride in 3:23:01…that’s an average of 32:5kms p/h (that’s even with two punctures and a drink stop included…more like rest periods for me :-).
We all had a fantastic time and are looking forwards to the next one on Sunday, 29th April 2012 in Rockingham. I’ve done 6 Cyclos now and find them a great way to get into something just a little more competitive than the usual club rides. It would be great if we could get more of the SPR crew involved, and maybe even a repeat of last year’s Swan Valley CycloSportif where we have a number of teams enter across the various distances.
My hopes are for a second date with some of the Fast Boys!! :-).

Good to see the “flat fairy” hard at work.
…buttercup…?
His young daughter hit him with a TOUGHEN UP BUTTERCUP following the ride and it just seemed to fit. You don’t choose your nickname it chooses you :-).
Well done guys. It wasn’t the easiest of days out there. I rode with the crew from AvantiPlus Cannington, I think we finished 8th overall, mainly due to my stupid legs cramping from the 60km mark to the end…turns out the body needs potassium and magnesium in order to operate.
See you guys in Rockingham!
Great effort Mat. How about joining us in flying the SPR flag in Rochingham?
it was a great date amanda. i look forward to our next one. let’s hope i get no more flats because andrew needs a rest 😉
minus the stopping time we had, we held an average of 34.1kph which is great considering how rolling the course turned out to be and the wind we had to content with.
the only flat bit of the course had a stonking crosswind but we had a tidy echelon rolling like a bunch of dutch pros!
Now Alistair you’d take the prize for the most stylish pro rider of the day what with those hot pink drink bottles.
Well done to the spr crew. Sounds like a great ride. MR what a fab place to have a bike ride…and a drink, after ;0 Awesome to see Amanda at the front in each photo too. Mixing it with the boys
Maybe last year’s team name of SPR Mixed Nuts would have been more appropriate a title then Cath :-).
My thoughts exactly Cathi. Did those boys do any work Amanda? I bet Andrew took that flat tyre off you just for the photo!
Great job boys and girl.
Admittedly I did have the occassional hand on my backside Anna but no more than that..especially not on a first date…I’m not that kind of girl!
Amanda and co well done! 5th overall is fantastic 🙂
How do you guys go about putting the teams together??? does the club nominate riders for each particular event, or is it teams entered upon interest level?? PS good work on the Margs ride.
Mands ripping it up as per usual. You’ll be kicked out of Main 1 into the fast group before long ;0) Looks like you all had a brill time.
