Swan Valley Cyclo Sportif – Update

G’day Crew

Just a quickie to let you know that we’ve done a bit of last minute shuffling to accommodate some distance and speed equality for the Cyclo Sportif. There has been a number of moves made, including those that have already happened (e.g. Carol).

Don’t panic though if you’ve already registered within another SPR team on the BWA website. The main thing is that you’ve registered. We do have some flexibility although we don’t want to change things around too much. The main focus is on having FUN, FUN, and FUN!!!

Stay tuned as details for the carbo-loading night scheduled for this coming Saturday evening will be posted on the blog shortly.

  1. Although SPR team 5 looks full on the Cyclo registration site, BWA will transfer me out AFTER registration closes midnight. Hence if there is ONE person who wants to join team 5, you need to register in team 7 and BWA will move you across tomorrow – Not the best work around.. but BWA were reassuring.

DEVELOPERS – if you are interested please register asap as it closes at midnight Tuesday.
    cheers Carol

  2. Hi – I’m not an official member of the club but I have gone out on a couple of rides with SPR. I’m registered with another team for 64km but we don’t have a team. Is there an opportunity to ride in the 64km distance with SPR? – Raj

    1. Raj…we’d be delighted to have you ride with us. I’ll pop you in SPR #6 with John’s crew. If you can get onto the BWA website ASAP to register though as you’ll miss out. Hope to see you at the carbo loading night too on Saturday night…Carol / Peter will be putting up some information on it soon. I look forwards to meeting you!

      1. Thanks Amanda, much appreciated. I’m already registered but will get on to BWA tomorrow to organize the swap over. Will try to make Sat if not will see you on Sunday.

        1. Hi Amanda – just confirming that I have now trf’d over and am registered with SPR 6. I don’t have a kit – not sure if I can purchase one now or borrow someones (M or L), but I’ll wear dark colours to match the SPR colours. Cheers – Raj. (Also, thanks very much for your help).

  3. Hi Amanda, I think I’m in the same boat as Raj – I’ve ridden a few times with Main 3 but not an official club member yet. Hope it’s OK to join the 64km ride, I’ve just registered myself for team #6!

  4. Amanda/Jordan, you guys have done a FANTASTIC job of coordinating this and catering to everyones needs. I know this is not easy and is time consuming. I just want you to know that it is appreciated.
    Now, let’s ride!

    1. Thanks Anna :-). Yes it’s defenitely kudos to Jordan ’cause without his assistance I doubt any of the crew would be able to make sense of the team table. I’m with you let’s get on our saddles and RIDE, RIDE, RIDE!!!

      1. Shaw, I’ll be riding to and from the event. I live in Bayswater so it’s a flat 15km(ish) roll to the event. If your route takes you past Bayswater (or close enough to it) let me know.

  5. Well done indeed Amanda! And if anyone happens to have a spare XXL SPR jersey for one of our Team 4 riders who doesn’t have any kit yet could they please bring it on Sunday? Thanks

    1. Fingers crossed someone has a spare jersey that they can loan out for the day. We defenitely want to fly the SPR flag by all being in the club kit…we’ll be the green/black brigade.

      1. I have an (sweaty) XL that I can loan to someone on (or maybe after) the Friday ride. I’ll just have to ride to work topless…..:P

  6. the club doesn’t have spare jerseys, but i will put a post up to ask people to bring along any spare jerseys that they have to cover those that don’t have any.

  7. Thanks Amanda and everyone else thats contributed to organising. Great stuff!
I’ll bring along a spare medium size short sleeve SPR jersey.

  8. Hmmm, with SPR 1 to 4 leaving close to each other could be interesting, for some intraclub rivalry. At least we (SPR #4) won’t get chicked. Feeling the pressure SPR 1 & 2?

  9. I know Pete said the recommended time to be there is by 7.30am. But I think that is just so that he has some company to keep him warm 🙂

I intend to leave Coode St at 7am together with the hills riders and go along Gt Eastern Hwy to the speed dome. This will mean being at the speed dome before 8am. In hindsight, I should have got Pete to arrange Greenmount for the hills ride.

Anyway, here is my planned route. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/105451163 which includes bike paths on the return leg.

I am 90% going to be riding to the event, but may end up driving if I get lazy

    1. Shaw, it’ll probably be 88% chance your 10% chance of driving to the event will become 90%, as the weather is forecast as 78% chance it will be 0.5 degrees in the morning, and add 50% chance you will wake up feeling lazy!

  10. Very impressed with all the organisational skills!

For Team # 6, John has moved on to be chased by the chicks – so I will take the leader role. As somewhat stated above, I will ride there and be at the Speed Dome at the SPR tent by 8am. We will gather at the tent by 9:00am at the latest. Call/msg me on 0422 800 868 if you are running late.

Sleep early, carbo load up – as our goal is to beat team #5 to lunch whilst smiling at the camera!

  11. Excellent race pack write up Pete – very helpful info. Especially like the comment on the benefits of vomited breakfast over no breakfast – although might try to keep mine down tomorrow morning if at all possible!!

    1. Team 5 & 6 managed just over 2hrs even after stopping for 10 + mins after our big stack during the second lap. Well done SPR 5 & 6

      1. Great fun (crash aside!). Bring on the next one. Thanks for the organisation amanda and to jason for being our fearless (if a little battered) leader.

        1. Grazes have turned into scabs so nearly healed. Got a full service on the bike and was given the all OK – got everything re-aligned and some new bar tape. Still don’t know how I ended up on the other side of the road 🙂

    2. All good, large bruise on my but and $15 to fix my bike and a new helmet, so all and all not bad at all. I believe the others are ok as well.
