Kings of Wanneroo – Registration Now Open

The Kings of Wanneroo weekend of racing is coming together and the registrations are now open on the CWA website.

Some more details are as follows

Saturday Racing starts at 8am with the Masters C and D Grades

Racing continues at 11am with the Masters A and B

Racing starts again at 8am on Sunday with the Open C and D grades, followed at 11am with the Open A and B grades. Masters riders can choose to ride both days if they wish.

Races will be of approx 50 mins long (timing will be at the discretion of the Commissaire).

These races are a great way to start off if you have never raced before and don’t have a current CA race licence. Entry fees are $25 for CA members and $30 for non CA members (this included a day licence for racing on the day). Both entry fees cover you and a friend for the day, which means that you can stick around and watch the cheats on their motorised Bikes do laps of the circuit either before or after your event..

Once again thanks to those that have expressed their availability to volunteer.  We have need of at the minimum 7 people for each day, and SPR have agreed that we would share the duties with RCCC.  Please again let me know what day you can volunteer for.  You will get free entry into the track. (As you will be listed as an official)

Further information on the Kings_of_Wanneroo, flyer or contact Jorgy or Pete for any information that I have not put on here. Please download the flyer and send it to all your friends, especially if you know anyone that has done the UCI event that you may be in contact with.  The bigger we can make this event, the more chance we will get an invite back next year and can continue to race on Barbagello.

  1. Hi guys, this will be my first race and I am looking for guidance as to which grade to enter on Sunday. I have no idea where I would fit into the grading, so any pointers would be appreciated. I ride main 1 and the early birds. C or D grade?
    Luke

    1. @luke I think you would be fine in C grade, however, note that there will be a sharp climb on each lap of the circuit. If you are unfamiliar with racing, then maybe start in D grade and see how you go. We would like to see that for your first race you had a good experience, rather than being dropped after 20 minutes and not coming back to racing. If you then feel that D grade is a little too easy, then for future races (ie the upcoming Crit Series) you can nominate for C grade. Either way, I think you will be fine.

  2. hi
i am also new to cycle racing and i have entered in masters d grade, i am fit and usually ride alone so i am not sure what grade i should enter
my pace is 30k/hr avearge on a 90k freeway ride is D o.k?
i am also the major sponsor of the kings event and i came up with this idea so if we can get the word out and get as many people in it as possible we can hopefully continue this again at next years event
i can assure anyone who enters they will have a ball coming down through the esses into turn 1

    regards, anthony mcfadden

    1. @anthony, great to see you supporting Bike racing in all forms. I would suggest that if you are new to bike racing that you are in the right grade with Masters D. Riding in a pack is a completely different skill to just being able to maintain a constant speed. D grade will help you develop the skills you need in a pack before advancing up the grades.

      1. thanks, thats what i thought, what is the go with finding out what to do with regards to the tactics and signals etc? if it were a motorcycle race it would be bolt out of the gate and go flat out till the end, i assume cycle racing has a bit more tactics

        1. You would assume right, re the tactics. Now how do you find out about what to do 1. experience, 2. find someone with experience and pick their brain, 3. read, 4. race lots and learn by mistakes, 5. experience, oh and last but not least 6. experience……
With our Crit searies a few years back D grade would be “chaperoned” by an experienced racer who would give out tips and advice about positioning. Don’t think there are any plans to do it for this race though. I can have a talk to the organisers (ie me and a few others) and see if we can put something in place.

          1. i think i can just wing it and see what happens, as long as i dont take anyone down it should be good, im mainly there for the motorcycle race anyway, i will talk to my mate who is racing in the A grade race and get some tips from him
thanks for the help and see you there

        2. Nick Churchill is going to be upset you’ve given away his race tactics….”bolt out of the gate and go flat out till the end”

        3. anthony, bicycle racing is pretty much the same as motobike racing, except everyone has different size engines and some are a little more worn out than others. you just have to watch out for the guys with superchargers.

  3. I too am a racing newbie so I have registered for the D Grade race. Good to see I won’t be the only first timer out there.

  4. I am also looking forward to sign up for my first ever race too – so will take your advice Jorgy and try with D grade.

I have a few grey hairs so is it best stick with the Masters? and what is the differnce between Masters and Open?

  5. I’ll come give the saturday race a go.
Would be a laugh to have photo’s of me on a roadie on the track to go next to the motorbike. 🙂
Sunday will be glued to the tv watching the MotoGP.

  6. If you are still in need of volunteers, Helen & I can help out on the Saturday. Also if you need help with prep let me know.
    Cheers.
Might be nice to see some of the big bikes too.

  7. Couldn’t find any details on the event so emailed RCCC about the D-grade race.

In summary (but don’t quote me), in case others are also wondering.

    – It will be timed event plus a lap or two.
    – Probably run for around 40 minutes.
    – Cross between a crit and a kermesse.
    – C & D on the circuit together but not in the same bunch.
    – Arrive early.
