UPDATE 3:
An executive decision was made to change our accomodation to Kal, the benefit being two nights for the same price and the ability to ‘base’ ourselves there rather than packing up & moving/racing each day.
We are planning to leave Friday PM and return to Perth Sunday PM after the race.
UPDATE 2:
If you are interested and did not recieve an email from me can you please get in touch ASAP at lukeellis@iinet.net.au

The Golfdields Cyclassic is coming up – http://www.cyclassic.com.au/
This is a two day handicap race offering something for all grades of racer and a community challange for those that dont want to compete. Run June 1-2 from Kalgoorlie to Menzes on day one and Menzies to Leonora on day two.
It should be a fantastic event and we’d love to have SPR represented. There are two main options for transport and i would like some feedback from club members.
- Option 1 – Fly, $220 pp + accom
- +Fast
- -require bike bags and time is tight on raceday to assemble everything
- -expensive
- Option 2 – SPR Team Bus $TBA <$75 + accom
- +cheap
- +social
- +room for gear
- -slow (its a 6hr drive to kal)
Can you please leave comments letting me know if you are intersted, and what your preference for transport would be.
More Info;
Accomodation is shaping up to be $77 per person, nice beds, showers and toilets with breakfast included.
Roz and i are in
Preference for Option 2
Amanda and I are definites. Happy with either option but I reckon that Option 2 would be our preference…after-all the ‘slow’ option should be okay considering it is a long weekend…it will definitely make things easier in terms of carrying gear as well!
I am driving up on the Friday morning and wifey and I are staying till Monday arvo (public holiday). Was planning on staying in Kal but would be interesting in staying with everyone else (whereever that is).
I’m in. I really do need to stick something on my calendar to get my butt into gear and do some proper training. 6 weeks should be enough right?
And I’m leaning towards option 2.
Count me in plus 1
for which option gary?
Gary goes both ways Luke 😉
In …
Option 2 sounds good
Hi Luke interested in option1- one way only to Kalgoorlie
Hi Judy,
thats a bit out of scope sorry…
http://www.qantas.com.au
http://www.skywest.com.au
Note that e grade is non-competitive, heck, even i could be talked into doing that after a couple of gels!
I’m in for option 2, I have a HR licene as well.
Hope you are doing C grade. That way I might have some chance! Speedy these days
Yep, Liam and I are in for the bus option.
Ok…. Change of plans. We’re going to make our own way to/from Kal.
Yep I’m definitely in
Option 2
Option 2 for me
Luke will the SPR bus be following the riders.I understand community riders have to look after their own food, water etc. A few of us had made tentative arrangements for a bus in Kalg to follow our riders to Menzies and bring them back
ive asked the race organisers about follow vehicles, will let you know.
so, this is the response.
follow cars are allowed, but not directly behind a specific rider. You can zoom on ahead, or leapfrog your way along.
so, yes, but you would have to move up the convey, deliver food water etc then drop back behind the race…. i wouldnt want to try that in a large bus.
I’m keen to give this a bash, option 2.
Keen. Are non-cycling other halves allowed (assuming it doesn’t take a potential racer’s spot on the bus)?
Option 2
more than welcome.
would she (im assuming ‘she’ here ben 😛 ) be willing to drive a van?
The toilets have breakfast?
Fancy race
An excited opt in for Option 2! 1 pax.
Change of plan; I’m still doing the ride, but making my own arrangements.
So it’s looking like <$75 bus + $77 accom + race fees.
Any idea on timings yet, i.e. from leaving Perth to arriving back?
🙁 I really wanted to do this but am away with work 🙁
Unlucky…
But the show will go on..
I’m participating on the Sat ride. Will travel by train and have booked hotel acc for Fri and Sat nights.
I’m in and hopefully can convince my plus 1 to come also. Should be great fun.
The laid back Cyclo participants version – Ross’s riders for trannies/developers who what options! Sunday or not Sunday.
Carol and John will be participating on the Sat ride. We will travel by train – after six years of travelling the road to Kal, John was not keen to do it again — ever ever ever. We are staying in Kalgoorlie Friday and Saturday and contemplating Sunday so can do the second day riding. Ross from the trannies is looking at renting a bus in Kalgorolie for the Saturday (possibly Sunday – extra cost for those who want the option) and the event organiser has offered to upsize the bus to a 25 seater as long we bring some journalists back on the Saturday afternoon – good PR opp! Ross’s wife has a heavy ridgid licence and kindly offered to drive the bus.. that’s one way to get out of cycling…hmm Sunday would be an option Jo! Three nights hotel, train transfers and bus in Kal… laid back .. but not the cheapest.. more of a long weekend away with cycling.
Carlos is in.
im in and pretty sure Emma is as well
Also making my own arrangements
If there’s still a spot left I’m keen
@des87
added.
Apologies Luke but other half will be 30wks pregnant and isnt keen on a weekend in the SPR bus (i dont know whats wrong with her!). So, I’m going to stick around in Perth and ride Peel District instead. Maybe next year….
I’m happy to come along as support. Bus for me. I can bring my massage table. 20 minute leg massage for $10 if anyone is interested
