new years resolutions. it is the third weekend of the year and so for a lot of people they have already broken or given up on their new years resolution. for spr this year, I would like the new years resolution to be an adherence to the ride etiquette guide. there have been too many reports coming back in of people riding in a manner which could cause an unsafe act to themselves or other riders. many of our rides will slow if the group gets split at a red light, so there is no reason for people to go through a red. this is also the reason why we split the groups at the beginning of the ride. the smaller the group, the less chance the group has of being split at lights and the easier it is for cars to get passed. the etiquette guide is there for your safety, lets try to make 2015 as safe as we can possibly can.
ride leaders – support the club and help us become ambassadors for the sport in the public eye. put your name down as ride leader to ensure that the group ride is safe and organised. sign up here.
ride leaders sponsorship – this months ride leaders are proudly sponsored by Allused, Commercial Equipment. please see the previous post detailing what they provide and we thank them for encouraging our members to step up as ride leaders. ride leaders will receive a $10 Dome voucher to be used after the saturday ride. if you have a business that you want to promote to our members, check out the previous post to both promote your business and help out the club.
club donations – we have had a couple of members involved in car bike incidents over the new year. davina summers was hit from behind at an intersection and michael bonner was u-turned in front of in kings park. as both of them make their recovery (both physical and financially) people were asking what they can do to help. as most of us do not have readily available medical/legal skills, if you want to make a donation to help out, then there is a donation link to the right of the website. it is also a timely reminder to ensure that your club membership is up to date as this gives you a bit of insurance in case you have an accident. please see the previous post for more details.
new 2015 spr cycle kit – after a bit of a technical delay, the new 2015 kit is now ready to order. there will be a final kit sizing session after the ride this saturday. see the previous post for further details of how to order. there is a special random prize for 10 lucky members which will reimburse them for a jersey and knicks.
infocrank demo/display – this saturday after the group ride, there will be a special demonstration and display of the infocrank powermeter from verve cycling. toby is a special infocrank affiliate coach so has organised for some special deals for spr members. hang around after the ride and see the benefits of training with power.
twilight crit series – want some midweek crit racing??? check out the previous post for details.
beginner ladies session – at the end of january, spr will be holding the next free ladies beginners skills session. this is aimed at ladies that have been reluctant to take that next step and come out riding in a group environment. if you know someone like that, please forward this onto them and invite them along. leigh and a couple of the other experienced ladies will take them through a number of riding skills and will finish up at the coffee shop for a brew. mroe info can be found on the previous post.
uwct training ride – this will now be a regular fixture on our sunday mornings until the event at the end of march. starting at 6am to avoid the traffic, this is a ride for those intending to do the uwct qualifier. this is a ride for experienced hills riders, the pace is fast and the hills are long. if you are thinking of doing the uwct event, but are not at the sunday long hills ride pace yet, i would recommend that you start with the sunday short hills ride first. more info can be found on the previous post.

Hi everyone, the Tranny Hills ride is preparation for the slower hill climbers and for people who want to get in some training for the 3 or 5 Dams Challenge. This weeks ride route is one that some have done with me before. Although last weeks ride was really out there, it did highlight the fact that you need to bring adequate: Hydration additives, water bottles, sunscreen, gels, money, spares, FOOD, magnesium tablets and a bag full of determination. Whilst every effort is made to stop regularly and allow for toileting, refuelling and filling of water bottles, YOU HAVE TO DRINK THE WET STUFF REGULARLY. Heat stroke and dehydration are real. Holes in pockets are not advantageous for securing your possessions. LOL.
Sorry to hear about the accidents over the break. I’m a lawyer that deals with these sorts of matters and am happy to have an informal chat to Davina and Michael if they’d unsure of where to go. I can forward my details if they’re interested.
