there are 2 types of riders. ones that have crashed and ones that have yet to crash. unfortunately if you do a lot of hours on the road, the odds are not really in your favour as there are so many things out of your control. in the 10 years i have been in perth, this is only my 2nd crash and the first one was pretty minor. a very small touch of wheels in front of me meant that i vaulted over a bike and rider sliding down the road at 50km/hr. what i found encouraging was the about of people that stopped to offer assistance. not just from our club (which i do appreciate those that gave up their ride to get us sorted), but also other random groups that were passing by. there were two groups that had people that stopped to help as a paramedic and a doctor offered assistance. also, the number of groups that just slowed down to ask if we needed help. at the time i was in the position shown in the picture, so i didn’t see much, but i heard everything. i managed to come out relatively well, if you consider a slight separation of the shoulder and lots of skin off, well, but i will now be off the bike for a couple of weeks while i recover. be aware of your surroundings while riding whether it is traffic, road conditions or what other riders are doing. stay upright, stay safe.
ride leaders – support the club and help us become ambassadors for the sport in the public eye. put your name down as ride leader to ensure that the group ride is safe and organised. sign up here.
ride leaders sponsorship – this months ride leaders are proudly sponsored by New Town Toyota. please see the previous post detailing what they provide and we thank them for encouraging our members to step up as ride leaders. ride leaders will receive a $10 Dome voucher to be used after the saturday ride. if you have a business that you want to promote to our members, check out the previous post to both promote your business and help out the club.
ladies fast ride – this saturday sees our next ladies fast ride. this ride is open to any ladies that want to have a go at good hard riding without the blokes there to mess it up and get the group lost. this group will head off before the fast group. the aim is to try to encourage more girls to take that step into more competitive riding. it is now a monthly occurrence but see the previous post for a few more details.
ladies main 2 ride – that’s right, the first saturday of the month is ladies day. kicking off between main 2 and main 3 we have another ladies only ride. aimed at those that are looking for a chance to improve their cycling without getting swamped, this ride will be lead by leigh.
renae’s race – next weekend in conjunction with rccc we will be presenting renae’s race at tech park. this race showcases women’s races with the final race of the day being reserved for the a grade women. see the post for more details.
uwct training ride – this will now be a regular fixture on our sunday mornings until the event at the end of march. starting at 6am to avoid the traffic, this is a ride for those intending to do the uwct qualifier. this is a ride for experienced hills riders, the pace is fast and the hills are long. if you are thinking of doing the uwct event, but are not at the sunday long hills ride pace yet, i would recommend that you start with the sunday short hills ride first. more info can be found on the previous post.
ride routes – first saturday of the month is ladies day and as such we have some separate rides for the women. the ladies fast group ride is meant to replicate the fast group ride and as such does not regroup unless for an accident. there are lots of groups following behind that riders can latch onto if needed.

Scott Sutton was the paramedic in our group who stopped. He doesn’t get out to ride too often due to his shifts. He’s an absolute top bloke even though he hates getting chicked!! Jonny & Lennie
For the girls that did the beginners session last week – look forward to seeing you in the development group ride on Saturday. We meet in the same corner of the car park that we started last week.
& I will be Ali’s helper 🙂 see you guys there!
