2015 spr christmas awards

Christmas bicycleAt the Christmas breakfast a number of awards were given out to acknowledge those that have contributed to the club this year.  Some were voted on by the membership, others were from race results and the presidential awards were determined by the president.

Club Awards – as voted by the membership via a survey.

Club Participants and Volunteers of the year; someone who has given their time to help the club to achieve success in social or cycling events.

  1. El Prez – is tireless in his time and effort he devotes to the club, behind the scenes (just getting out those weekly emails alone) as well as setting up and packing away at events. He is always there making sure everything is works and everyone is OK. What can we say. He’s a legend. NO ONE does more for the Club.
  2. Cathi Dixon – she is constantly helping out at events such as the Tour of Margs and Kalgoorlie, has driven hundreds of kilometres and has put in countless hours to support clubs members when racing. Cathy is great for advice and she is at events often with the massage table and magic hands.

Most improved rider and racer; a rider or racer who over the last year has made the greatest improvements in ability and skill

  1. Patrick Saccani-Williams  – he is just going from strength to strength and has progressed from D to A grade within 12 months having wins along the way. Totally amazing.
  2. Sarah Smith – her devotion to cycling has turned her into a machine, making the step up to A-grade this year. She inspired the SPR Women 1 team in the ToMR to chase, attack and give it their all, resulting in getting our girl on the podium – an awesome leader amongst the SPR racing Chicks. She never gives up & always out there. A rockstar.

Ride leaders of the year: someone who has consistently led cycling groups and maintained good order in the group.

  1. Captain Jordan Brock – Mr Consistency on weekday rides, making sure that rides are safe and well managed and for looking out for everyone, not just the cool dudes. The man is a mountain goat.
  2. Shane White  – he is so reliable and consistent stepping up to lead rides and taken a lot of riders on there first experience of hills, waiting for them and encouraging them where needed. He has motivated a lot of club members to take on the 3 dams ride for the first time.
  3. Julian Johnson  – for always leading the crowd and keeping the standard of riding highly respectful. For his no nonsense leadership in group rides and the UCI race.
  4. Rob Ramsden – he always helps out on every ride he does and keeps the rides safe.

Good Samaritans: someone who has taken an opportunity to help on the spur of the moment another cyclist in need.

  1. Andrew Ballam  – was the only one of over 60 passing riders to stop long enough to throw me spares on a miserably wet day. Another member said that Andrew came back when they dropped their chain on Swan Valley ride and a third member said that when they were involved in a crash which damaged their wheel, Andrew refused to let them catch a cab home. Instead he rode home and got me a spare wheel so that I could ride the 7am ride.

Most inspirational rider: someone who has influenced you this year through their deeds or helped to motivate you to achieve more in cycling than you thought you could.

  1. Michael Bonner – coming back from breaking his neck and immediately kicking ass around the hills.
  2. Kizzi Vaile- before and after having twins, she showed what one could do with determination.
