FOMO. fear of missing out. last saturday during the earlybird the heavens opened and we got totally drenched. this was definitely not an example of FOMO as i am sure all of you that were on zwift didn’t miss much. what you did miss was FOMA or Foam Out My Arse, well not mine in particular. this phenomenon occurs when a pair of knicks is either not rinsed well enough or too much detergent has been used. once the chamois has been totally saturated, the oscillating compression of the butt on the seat causes the excess soap to form bubbles. lots and lots of small bubbles create a foam monster which flys off and attacks unsuspecting riders following behind. while riding in the wet is tricky enough, having to avoid butt foam ads a new dimension to why we ride.
ride leader sponsor –there is no ride leader sponsor for june. if you want to promote your business to our 400 members and 2500 facebook followers, get in contact with the club.
entertainment book – once again we are selling the entertainment book as a fundraiser for the club. available as a digital version, you can carry it anywhere on your phone to make sure that you never miss out on those discounts. if you do want a physical book, these are still available but you must select a postage option. click here to order your new book.
spr club championships – with only 100 members expressing interest in a club champs, we have decided to not run it this year. hiring the venue and providing a safe environment with st john on site means that we would be looking at about a $5000 loss. i still think that the idea has merit and so the committee will investigate it further in the future.
tour of margs expression of interest – well it is on again and spr will be sending teams to compete in the biggest team cycling event in wa. the tour of margaret is a multi-stage teams based race centred around the down south town of nannup. there so many reasons why this is such a cool race to be part of and there are lots of links within the previous post. if you want to be part of it, make sure you contact the club via the email address in the previous post. expressions of interest close soon as we need to commit the number of teams and entry fee to the tour organisers. if you are planning on doing this event, or are needing an incentive to train more, put your name down now.
junior jersey policy – In order to further encourage junior participation the Committee has resolved to offer all junior members a free club jersey! And in recognition that juniors will keep growing, the policy allows for one jersey per year (as long as they are a member) until 18 years of age. Please see the previous post for more details.
memberships new changes – if you are a member of another club and want to change to spr then it is simply a matter of calling up cycling australia memberships and giving them your membership number. i have requested that an additional fee is not required and most people don’t care what club is written on their card as long as they are in the right club in the system. it should be a zero fee transaction and if they ask for anything, tell them to contact the club.
saturday start locations – we have revamped the group start locations on saturday morning. please have a look at the map so you know where your group will congregate. this makes it easier for ride leaders to give you a briefing before the ride starts. see the previous post for more details.
spr juniors – CANCELLED. a bit of a discussion with the other parents and we have decided to put the juniors ride on hold over winter. the last few weeks have been too wet and the prediction is for more rain on saturday. even if it is not wet, then 2 deg in kings park is not pleasant and we want to make sure that the kids are actually having fun. we will reassess mid august as to when to start up again.
from the ride coordinator –So the choice of this week’s ride is often one of the most talked about ride routes that we have. It even has its own nick name of “Spewin’ Ewen “. The view from the bottom of the Ewen Street Street hill in Doubleview can strike fear into even the best rider, however the cruise down the other side towards Scarborough is a ripper. It reminds me of a quote from Ernest Hemingway “It is by riding a bicycle, that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them”. The only question that remains is why do the contours have to be so steep in this part of our country ?
