Ride Routes 21st – 27th December

Hi all,

With Christmas this week, make sure you check out the ride routes below. Lots of time for riding, and SPR has options for you πŸ’š

Crit season continued this week with Roues Chaudes putting on stellar events both Sunday and Tuesday.

Some photos below, including an updated leaderboard, and congratulations to SPR podiums:

  • Jane Yang – 1st Place, Women’s C Grade (Sunday, Summer Crit #2)
  • Mathew Wardynec – 1st Place, B Grade (Sunday, Summer Crit #2)
  • Simon Jones – 2nd Place, B Grade (Sunday, Summer Crit #2)
  • Mathew Wardynec – 1st Place, B Grade (Tuesday, Twilight World Champs #3)
  • John Ingham – 1st Place, D Grade (Tuesday, Twilight World Champs #3)

The racing has been spectacular. It has been excellent to see so many SPR members racing all across the grades. Not to mention highlights like getting to watch Luke Durbridge race, taking in the A Grade win from a breakaway on Tuesday after having put the entire field in the hurt locker. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening in Perth racing.

Thanks to everyone who came along for our Christmas Ride and Awards last Saturday. We will post all the awards to the blog in the upcoming days.

I have a Nationals update, with SPR having lots of riders participating across the Gran Fondo, Masters Club Criterium, Team Trials and not to mention that we will have several SPR members racing in the Elite Womens Road Race. Finally, on the Nationals, whilst we have not been able to get a specific update on the needs, AusCycling is still looking for volunteers – so if you are able to help, please check out the request here and sign up!

Finally, we are not running an SPR competition this year but that does not mean there is not kudos on offer. Sign up on Strava for the Festive 500 and make sure you are a member of SPR on Strava so we can track club members on the leaderboard.

See you out on the bike.

Daniel

Racing this weekend – If you want to race, or get in on the action watching others race, read on.

1. It’s Christmas… more racing in the New Year…

2. Besides, you have Festive 500 kms to do πŸ’š

Juniors Ride β€” This Saturday we will ride from Raffles (https://maps.app.goo.gl/4z8wJLesM4CsRj3x5) to Kings Park and return along the Freeway PSP.

We will enjoy a treat at the Botanic cafe’ and return back to Raffles in Canning Bridge.

Given the quite warm temperature predicted for the weekend, let’s meet at 8.30am this time.

From the Ride Coordinator β€” It’s heating up again this weekend so make sure you are hydrated and have enough water & electrolyte for the busy cycling week ahead and the Festive 500.

The Saturday lineup in the carpark is back to normal. Please remember to move with your group closer to the start as the previous groups leave. Main 2 & 3 should gather in the parking bays nearest to the river and keep the roadway free for other traffic.

Sunday short hills have a new route to try – Kal Glenisla Palm Lwnbrk. Please familiarise yourself with it. Enjoy! Christmas Day sees the return of the popular Christmas Day Ride organised by Andrew Ballam. Checkout the SPR Facebook page for details (link below). On Boxing Day we have scheduled the Public Holiday South ride. Take Stirling Hwy to get over the river to avoid  the ongoing works on the Fremantle Traffic Bridge.

Wishing you a safe and festive holiday!
