For those that don’t know, I have the body of a rather large shaved ape, when I stand I use the front bars to smash the pedal forward, yeah the bike goes backwards. I blame gravity.

My current practise is to swear before any effort including standing, but I am more than happy to change the expletive for a shout of “standing” if that is required. I know some clubs do the same thing for when you grab a drink as you naturally slow down then as well.

My back wheel also goes from side to side when I stand, I am clearly not a good arsehole to ride behind but am willing to sing “I am an asshole” song while doing this if it helps warn people of my sideways rear wheel of death.

I mean if you are that insecure about riding in the wind, find someone you know and trust and ride behind them. Or you could just leave a gap until you know the rider in front better.

As the King of Perth said:
“All I can add to the conversation is that the old back wheel shove back when standing is common. It happens. Your in a club bunchy where skills are mixed – so don’t ride so close.”
