Some early notice that the SPR UWCT road race training for the Perry Lakes course will start on Saturday 1st February. Similar to last year, we’ll assemble under the Narrows at 6:00am (to avoid the traffic buildup on West Coast highway) and aim to be back at Toby’s Dome by around 8:30.
Warmup will take us on the Malcolm St avoidance route via Mounts Bay Rd, Winthrop Ave, Aberdare, Stubbs, Alfred, Brockway and Underwood until we get to Perry Lakes Drive.
We will aim to ride the first 3 laps in a ‘caring and sharing’ manner i.e. keeping a large group together at around 12:30/12:40 per lap, then it’s off-the-leash for the next 5 or 6 laps (i.e. forming smaller self-organised ability based groups).
Some course information has appeared on the Perth UWCT website.Distance: 98km – made up of 2 short laps and 10 long laps that go up Waldron Ave (the steep bit towards the Quarry Amphitheater that the NSR race used in 2013).
It’s unlikely that the Waldron Ave boom gate will be open on Saturday mornings before the event so individual reconnaissance will be required.
Proper blog post to follow towards the end of January.
