Simply a request to make good decisions within our group rides.

Not long after we stopped perfectly at the Malcolm St. orange light (well instigated by Matty Upton), a few riders used motor vehicle traffic in the middle lane of the Thomas St descent to get a break on the bunch. It wasn’t a pretty sight as riders were seen drafting closely behind fast moving vehicular traffic in the middle of the road while others remained in the left hand lane – just to enforce a breakaway.

In mitigation, non-regular SPR riders (guests?) started the move, perhaps inspired by things observed elsewhere. But ‘we’ didn’t need to follow such risky (and annoying to motorists) behaviour.

Let’s keep our group rides in perspective: they can be hard hit-outs where you push yourself – and others – to improve your/their fitness and form, but they aren’t races (as has been said often enough). There are no bragging rights (especially for dubious methods) and they’re certainly not worth risking injury (which might involve others having to peel you off the road).
