Good to hear from you, Chris. Andrew’s example is a good one of the difficulties we face – the ‘will of the bunch’ is often hard to control as it’s our natural instinct to want to keep up with a fast-moving group (to enjoy the cut and thrust of group riding). If some get through a light, roundabout or T junction it’s a tough choice to do the right thing and be ‘dropped’.

Andrew et. al. have shown it can be done, and long may it continue. On Tuesday we split at the same lights and formed a good roll-through to eventually catch the group by Applecross. A good time was had by all.

Many of our midweek training rides attract non-club riders who aren’t there at the Narrows at the start and often peel off before the finish (and don’t read the blog), so it is a problem to communicate our club etiquette with them during a ride.

Unfortunately other rides in Perth don’t have the same sorts of expectations as ours regarding safe or law-abiding behaviour, so it is a problem for us to prevent our training rides being contaminated when they are open to anyone and everyone. (This may be one of the reasons that paid-for training groups are becoming more popular). Very hard to control the ‘will of the bunch’ with lots of outsiders on board.

PS Hope Jarrad and bike are mending quickly after their slippery roundabout issue on Thursday.
