The event will be run out of the Marrinup MTB park and will have a completely different feel to the Dwellingup 100 even though it is the sister event to the D100. To start with there are some bigger climbs, 800 meters over the 50 kms, and secondly Turner Hill is not featured in this race. However, there is some awesome trail that simply rocks!
We know how much you like riding with your best mate on the weekends, so we have designed (well stolen really) an event that you can race with you mate for 50 kms around Dwellingup. The idea is to pick a mate who rides at a similar pace to you and then go out and help each other push your own boundaries on some of the best single track Dwellingup has to offer. You will then get to share the glory and the gold when you take the win together.
The only catch is that you can’t be more than 10 seconds apart for the whole race and especially at the finish line. This also makes things a little tricky when passing as you need to account for 2 riders in one passing move.
There is also “The Joey”, a shorter mountain bike race for the kids, mums and novices who may simply be there to spectate. The exact distance for “The Joey” is still to be confirmed but will be somewhere around 15 kms and won’t feature any of the big climbs or descents.
All Trek D50 Duo competitors will receive a free T Shirt featuring our cool logo of the Duo Kangaroos and will be in the running for over $3000 worth of prizes from Trek and Bontrager Australia. Over $1000 in prizes will also be given away as spot prizes. But be warned, numbers will be capped for this event and people will miss out.
Our event is part of the Single Track Minds WA Marathon series and will carry points towards this series.
Finally, the event is brought to you by Tony Tucknott, James Lobegeiger and Peter Millard. All long time members of the Perth Mountain Bike Club and big contributors to the club, mountain biking in general, and to the Dwellingup 100. We are running the Trek D50 Duo as a fund raising event to send Reece Tucknott to Europe in June for a couple of world cup races and then again in October for the MTB world championships.
The Trek D50 Duo is barely 3 months away so keep your eyes out for entries and further information. Until then, pick a partner and start riding Duo.
