Try to stay in the front third of the peloton, this minimises your chance of getting into trouble from either a) bad handling riders or b) getting blocked out When it comes to the finish. Don’t be too concerned about riders breaking away so long as you can keep eyes on them, count the distance left and make it up before the end. If you’re willing to do turns at the front you can control the pace of the group to an extent.
