Saturday Ride Babysitting and Pemberton Family Weekend

By Josh

Hello Parents of junior Rouleures! As cycling is becoming more popular, some parents are finding themselves engaged in heated arguments as to who is going to ride on Saturday morning! To solve this marriage crisis, we are looking to see who is also interested in babysitting for their children on Saturday morning so that harmony can be achieved for parents!

As there are many issues for parents to encounter when leaving their precious ones, I propose a family BBQ to discuss options and ideas for babysitting on Saturday mornings. If you have any ideas or issues, could you please leave a comment so that we are aware of them before we meet.

The meeting time will be 5:00pm Saturday 13 Feb at Coode St Park, Yes where we all meet to ride on Sat and Sun, there is a large play ground and public BBQ’s. This is BYO everything.

Pemberton Family Accommodation

With the Pemberton racing weekend one month away, it would be wise for families planning on going, to get together to discuss family accommodation and for our families to meet one another before going away. I am looking into accommodation for multiple families to stay together, so that our weekend might be more enjoyable.

Before this racing weekend, I also propose that those interested come along on the 13th (see above) to find out each other’s plans and meet one another’s families.

Sat 30 Jan Advanced ride…

By Josh

As the sun rose, the cycling gods again blessed us with a howling south easterly wind.

After directions from the Boss and a kiss for good luck, the advanced group was off. A good start, with about 25 – 30 rouleurs rolling out. once we turned south onto North Lake Rd, the wind and hills cut us down to about 20. The wind was strong and if you could not find a set of broad shoulders to hide behind, there was not much cover.

The first break, Jarrad, Chris and Matty managed to put about 100m on us as Nico put the pedal down to bridge the gap. However the cycling gods did not smile on them…Red Light!

So we were moving solidly along Berrigan Dve now as one group when the motoring public would intervene to give us break number 2. The led group decided to take full advantage of this and the gap grew to about 300m very quickly.  The led group now consisted of about 5 riders and the peloton holding about 10. After the peloton realised the potential of the led group, we got our act together and the juice was applied. It was a good attack and a good chase, with the led group looking to punish the peloton and the peleton looking to devour the led group! This continued onto Jandakot Rd, Warton Rd and Nicholson Rd. The cycling gods still did not smile on the break away… a red light at Nicholson and Ranford! So the peloton came back together with juice still on to Albany Hwy, here Nico left us and someone decided to turn of the power. So we rolled along at  what seemed like the pace of the novice group, with no one wanting to to put the pedal down. So as we approached the undulations through Vic Pk I decided it was time to go nuts for a minute and drive the pace back up to the ferocious pace that is the advanced group. As i checked my shadow, I noticed someone was on my tail, so I thought that the whole group would be about to put me back in my place, however Johnny sings out “We’ve got a GAP!”

The last break, so I took a quick glance and saw that we had about 80 – 100m on the group. And then the cycling gods smiled for once! Johnny and I were pushing hard through Vic Pk passing through Oats St when the lights changed amber, we looked and saw the chase group slowing “Go Johnny, Go!” I yelled. We gave it everything, we lost sight of the group here and never saw them again…
