even though the tour de france is probably taking up valuable sleeping time in a lot of our members, there is another very important race going on at the same time. the women’s giro is also in full swing and some of our members just happened to be over there when our honorary spr member annemiek van vleuten smashed the rest of the competition for the stage win and jumped into the overall lead. annemiek then went on to win the next stage, an uphill time trial.
ride leader sponsor –there is no ride leader sponsor for june. if you want to promote your business to our 400 members and 2500 facebook followers, get in contact with the club.
spr tour of margs – With EOI’s officially closed, we still may only be able to field 3 teams down from the 6-7 teams just last year. Most importantly, WE NEED MORE WOMEN!!!! While
the ToMR Crew are coming to town for an Info Session in August (as advertised on FB) but we’d really like your EOI now! Check out the previous post for more info. Ask on the SPR Chicks FB page, or email Race@SPR if you’ve got any queries in the meantime, though. For any late EOI’s get on it and email race@southperthrouleurs.com.au
entertainment book – once again we are selling the entertainment book as a fundraiser for the club. available as a digital version, you can carry it anywhere on your phone to make sure that you never miss out on those discounts. if you do want a physical book, these are still available but you must select a postage option. click here to order your new book. there are usually different weekly offers on when you buy your entertainment book.
junior jersey policy – In order to further encourage junior participation the Committee has resolved to offer all junior members a free club jersey! And in recognition that juniors will keep growing, the policy allows for one jersey per year (as long as they are a member) until 18 years of age. Please see the previous post for more details.
memberships new changes – if you are a member of another club and want to change to spr then it is simply a matter of calling up cycling australia memberships and giving them your membership number. i have requested that an additional fee is not required and most people don’t care what club is written on their card as long as they are in the right club in the system. it should be a zero fee transaction and if they ask for anything, tell them to contact the club.
saturday start locations – we have revamped the group start locations on saturday morning. please have a look at the map so you know where your group will congregate. this makes it easier for ride leaders to give you a briefing before the ride starts. see the previous post for more details.
spr juniors –CANCELLED. a bit of a discussion with the other parents and we have decided to put the juniors ride on hold over winter. the last few weeks have been too wet and the prediction is for more rain on saturday. even if it is not wet, then 2 deg in kings park is not pleasant and we want to make sure that the kids are actually having fun. we will reassess mid august as to when to start up again.
from the ride coordinator –with the ride coordinator off overseas getting selfies with dutch professional riders, it has fallen back to me to put something together for the weekend. after being sick for the last 2 weeks, i am looking forward to actually getting out and doing some exercise. probably best you don’t ride behind me though, there could be some snot rockets.
saturday 13th july
ride starts under the narrows (cityside) at 5:30am
SPR ToMR 2019 Expressions of Interest are closing this Saturday, 6th July at TWO MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT!

Stage 2: The Kandalee Catapult, Road Race – day 2 from Nannup to Greenbushes with 2 big climbs

At this point is time, it appears we may only barely be able to field 3 teams in total. Quite a departure from the 6-7 teams from days of yore. Or even just last year.
Most importantly, WE NEED MORE WOMEN!!!! While the ToMR Crew are coming to town for an Info Session in August (as advertised on FB) but we’d really like your EOI now! Ask on the SPR Chicks FB page if you’ve got any queries in the meantime, though.
The SPR ToMR trip is a “Club” event, with team houses booked, a Squad BBQ on the final night and a huge support from within the squad. The budget is expected to be approx $630-$650 per person, covering your $360 event registration fee, 4 nights accommodation and subsidising our SPR Club volunteers at the event.
This week is your last chance to express your interest before team numbers, accommodation and pricing is finalised. Please read the previous post for further details on “The Deal”.
If you ordered club kit in the last batch it is now ready for collection. It will be available for pick up from the DOME post the Saturday ride from 9:00am until 10:00am for the next two weeks (29/6 and 6/7). After that time you’ll need to make alternative arrangements via kit@southperthrouleurs.com.au.
Please make the effort to come and collect your kit even if the weather means you aren’t riding…I will be making the effort to get it to the cafe! ????
Organisation for SPR’s Tour of Margaret River is underway for 2019. And Race@SPR are seeking Expressions of Interest for Members to be a part of the SPR Squad for 2019 prior to opening nominations.
Since opening EOI’s, we have a mere 7 people showing interest. Not even two full teams. For TOMR!?!?! Say it ain’t so!
EOI’s will be closing shortly, and the number of teams registered, accommodation booking and volunteers required will be based on these responses.
Have a read of the original post HERE for further details on the event and the non-negotiables. Once open, nominations this year will again require a deposit and an acceptance of the SPR ToMR Guidelines. If you have any questions, have a chat with your Race Sub-Committee members post-ride on Saturday’s at Dome.
SPR’s annual trip organisation for Tour of Margaret River is underway for 2019. Race@SPR are seeking Expressions of Interest from SPR Members to be a part of the SPR Squad for 2019 prior to opening nominations so we can get a gauge of the number of teams for this year.
In recent years SPR has fielded teams comprising women’s, men’s and mixed teams and we are expecting the same this year. The event is organised as an SPR Club trip, so we stay in team houses based in Busselton and package 4 nights’ accommodation, event registration and subsidy for SPR Volunteers as a set price for participating SPR racers.
The event website has a load of general info HERE which will give you an idea. There are updates coming regularly and we will look to keep the SPRouleurs updated through the Blog posts here, and the FaceBook pages as well.
For some SPR history lessons, here is a list of links to previous ToMR Race reports on the SPR Blog for your reading pleasure:
This year the event is scheduled as a 3 day, 4 stage race event based on teams of 6 racers. Stage 1 is a Team Time Trial that ranks the teams into grades for the remaining stages. Hosted in the stunning South West area of Nannup over 7th-10th November 2019, it is a true Pro-Am event, with Current and Past World Tour Pro’s amongst the peloton. In 2017 SPR scored the current World ITT Champion and all ’round Legend, Dutchie Extraordinaire Annemiek van Vlueten as a Team member. It was 4 days of awesome we’ll not forget – thanks AvV!
So before you move, please understand there are a few “non-negotiables” when nominating:
You must be a current member of SPR.
You must have or be prepared to have an SPR Race License (your Recreational License can be upgraded to Race).
You should be expecting to train and race through the year with the SPR Team(s) to prepare.
You must volunteer for at least one event for SPR through the year.
There will be some more information released and Q&A Information Sessions prior to nominations officially opening. Nominations this year will require a deposit and an acceptance of the SPR ToMR Guidelines. Think of them as Terms and Conditions, Expectations, “The Rule Book” – they have become a necessary documented guide for us and will be published when nominations open.
If you have any questions, have a chat with your Race Sub-Committee members post-ride on Saturday’s at Dome.
The Spring Classics are done. The Cobbles, The Ardennes, and now the one week tours are on. That can only mean one thing…
Ciao Bella!

Tonight we held the first ever formal meeting of SPR’s Ride Leaders at Dome Westralia Square. With over 30 in attendance, the evening included the group getting to know each other a little better as well as general networking and socialising.
A huge thank you goes to Toby for hosting our evening and creating a great atmosphere for us.
The evening involved the team workshopping ideas for how to improve the safety and enjoyment of SPR’s training rides with lots of great ideas and recommended solutions being offered.
Going forward, it is envisaged that a sub-set of this group will create a formal sub-committee that will meet 3 times a year to further contribute to the improvement overall of SPR’s training rides.
One of the great ideas ready for immediate implementation will be that Ride Leaders will encourage riders in their group to communicate calls as normal (ie: “car back”) but to also include a polite “pass it up” or “pass it back” following the call. This is in pursuit of increasing communication across the board and aiming to improve the distribution of important information throughout the group. So…if you’re reading this….pass it up…!!
