I think your view is pretty reasonable – control is reduced. What people see professionals doing on closed roads doesn’t translate well to amateurs on open roads. The second time I observed the position described, in use on an SPR ride, was down Darlington Rd – a road with driveway entries etc. and a fairly low speed limit.
