you need to know your strava segments
there is a line on the road about 25m before the big green sign. I think it is directly opposite the entry to the gravel car park on the other side of the road.
I admit riding fixed does look a bit harder. Sans water bottle mounts does add that degree of difficulty too.
I just picked up a new…[Read more]

Following on from the success of the inaugural SPR Velo Solo Spring Classic last weekend, it was agreed by a number of participants, that we should hold a follow up event.
So please save the date (early December) for the running of the Inaugural SPR Velo Solo Summer Classic. This should give everyone time to source and prep a single speed bike.…[Read more]

Is anyone doing this? I’m tossing up between this, the Dwellingup 100 or both. But given they are 8 days apart I’m a little unsure.

yeh Im thinking the shorter distance on a SS. It is more comfortable than the cadex. Which I only bought for the group set anyway.

I’ll ramp up the negotiations with my man in Nigeria, and see if he is interested in the events naming rights. In which case we might be able to arrange for all finishers to receive Zim100,000,000,000,000.
Maybe we can have a bonus for the Port Beach intermediary sprint. So I’m sure that will pay for gear change. Perhaps try and cover your…[Read more]

could be. I have a semi heroic, Giant Cadex ALR-1 which I think is 1992 or 1993. It’s still 8 speed with down tube shifters and old look delta pedals (and I have some old red and yellow shoes)
I’m just not sure if I’m that heroic to want to sit on it for 130 kms.
I also have a Concorde Prelude as a SS, but its 1991. It has spinergy Rev -x…[Read more]

I am in the process of negotiating a substantial winners purse for the event. I happened to come across this nice Nigerian man via a random email. Who it seems has a suitcase full of these…
I just need to pay his bank fees.

I got the ok from Peter.
However, I had a thought on the way home tonight.
Should we open the event up to everyone. The rule being if you have gears you can still ride in the Classic. However, you must nominate 1 gear for the ride and stay in it.
that way we can get a few more participants.

I sent it off to Peter for approval. yeh it’s not spring, but Russell couldn’t make it and I think late sept was bad for me.
This coming Saturday morning is looking good though. Anyone up for a route reconnoissance ride this saturday morning?

how about this….
For something a little different, we will be kicking off the inaugural Velo Solo Spring Classic™* to be held on Saturday30th August. Depending on the turn out and popularity it could become a quarterly classic.
The Velo Solo Spring Classic™* is open to anyone who rides a single speed bicycle, be it a track bike, fixie or fre…[Read more]

Very jealous about the Pyrenees. I’ll have to talk to you about that one.

I’ve been off the bike with the flu for most of the week. Although I got to test out the performance of my mud guard on Monday evening, which given I was saturated it was a little hard to evaluate.
How about we make it the Velo Solo Spring Classic and aim for Saturday 6 September.
We could also have a reconnaissance ride for course selection…[Read more]

We could do it on a saturday or sunday morning in lieu of a normal group ride.
This coming week or next (weather permitting it might suck bashing into a 30kn sw down the coast)
I think Chee is climbing hills this week with the rapha rising. So we could do it week after. I will see if we can get it on the blog and see if that gets some more…[Read more]

there were two turnaround points, one was my buddy getting carried away with bunny hopping logs (which had closed a trail) the other we went right when we should have gone left. But that was a nice quick descent anyway. The first river crossing was rideable just below BB. The last one…[Read more]

I think after careful consideration of your arguments and in the interest of inclusion, fixie and SS it is. Plus you guys were the only ones to reply
For the route I was thinking we could go:
– through Nedlands;
– cross Stirling hwy at Christchurh;
– under the tunnel and then go up Claremont Crescent;
– Down Curtin ave and past Port beach to…[Read more] -

I have been riding a cheap SS to work a couple of times a week for the last few months. I had really been enjoying the riding and chatting with other SS guys that you pass. Towing people with gears up the freeway is also amusing.
This inspired me to convert an old euro steel frame that I had been hoarding into a better SS. So I sold my other…[Read more]

the coles and tavern loops would be interesting. I only ever ride the camel farm. So it would be good to try something new.
Night ride would also be great. is the sand to simulate the beach, or the sand we got on the new addition to day 2 in last years event.
In 3 years I reckon I have actually ridden maybe 500m of beach. But I wont be…[Read more]
