It’s very green. I would like to see a little more white on the jersey – to retain some continuity with our well recognised previous kit and to keep our club uniform as visible as possible at all times (given that most of our midweek training rides begin at 5:30am i.e. in the dark for most of the year).

G’day Gavin,
August is the final month of our winter and is often the worst in terms of weather. It can be cold and/or wet i.e. minima of 3 degrees in the morning and maxima of 14 degrees (cold and wet) as the worst case scenario. So I would bring a fair bit of your UK winter gear. It doesn’t get warm here until September (our spring) and then…[Read more]

Hi Nirvan,
Training and testing is more difficult indoors than outdoors for a number of reasons. Most people’s FTPs are significantly lower indoors, which suggests that separate testing in both environments is required to ‘set’ them for training purposes.
Failing that rigmarole, you can experiment indoors by setting it say 20 watts lower than…[Read more] -

Don’t be so self-critical, Greg. You’re a whole person to your SPR friends.

Check out the course as currently advertised at https://cyclemycity.com/index.php?option=com_maps&view=routeDetails&mid=858&Itemid=248
The circuit goes up Hardwick Rd up to Weir Rd (also known as the Haddrill Rd climb). Most of the climb is at over 10% gradient with the Weir Rd section mostly over 15%, hitting 20% near the top. (A brave move by…[Read more] -

Another compelling piece of literature, Jim. Congratulations on your two top 10 performances over the three days. May I add my thanks to the many SPR supporters out on the day; the rest of our peleton certainly knew all our christian names (and some surnames) by the end of the race. Looking forward to September and lots of training rides through winter.

Wednesday Training Ride (Holiday hundred + Haddrill) – 7:00am at Coode.
A longer training ride (105km) is planned this Wednesday for those with extra riding time and/or a keenness to prepare for UCI or Dams events. The route will head out initially along the cycle paths before hitting the open road from Bayswater, taking in the scenic delights of…[Read more] -

No problems with my Dura-ace model throughout 2 years of use. Bought from LBS (TBE Belmont) for the same price as online.

Suffered a recent injury? Have a nagging problem that won’t clear up?
Curtin University School of Physiotherapy are offering SPR riders an opportunity for cheap physio with students that already have a Physiotherapy degree and are studying for their Masters of Sports Physiotherapy under the supervision of Leon Vogels (of the well-known Vogels…[Read more] -

Heroic ride and excellent reportage as usual, Jim. Considering our lack of similar terrain to prepare on, you did extremely well, particularly on the descents, which terrify and/or bamboozle most Aussies riding in Europe. We really need to be able to ride them on a regular basis.
LSL is getting closer and this one is on the list. See you at Amy’s. -

Lots of road works around Elizabeth Quay, including cobbles and a closed Barrack St at times (last Saturday on way to EBR). Be prepared to divert to St Georges Terrace.

That’s a lot of pressure, Amanda. You do have the title of the fastest team of 2014 (both genders) to defend.

As a follow-up to the Race Committee’s impressive all-encompassing post, the Collie Cycle club have released more info about their races taking place next weekend.
SATURDAY EVENT TIMETABLE
Saturday May 2: […]-
Well said Mike, couldn’t have put it better myself. The new course looks to be a good one for anyone thinking about trying racing for the first time. As a very rough guide, D grade is Main 2 pace, C grade = Main 1 and B grade is similar to Saturday fast.
Remember, the Tom Lowry road race is another of the races that make up the Club Championship Series. Get in Green and get down there! -
I forgot about the extra competitions as part of the Tom Lowry.
There is a “club” competition awarded to the best performing club over the two days of racing. I’m sure SPR chicks will make up for the boys and bring home the bacon!
There is also a teams competition for the Sunday road race, subject to numbers.
If you are going to race on Sunday in SPR kit in any grade, leave a reply to this post or email race@southperthrouleurs.com.au and I will collate people and send it to the organisers later in the week! -
I’ve registered for the D grade road race and am a bit nervous about racing against boys for the first time! But according to Dave’s rough guide I’m probably in the right place.

Very well said, Davina. Being on the wrong end of a bike versus car incident really does test one’s physical and mental capacities, but the support of the extended SPR family makes all the difference in promoting the necessary healing.
