Haddrill Road for Sunday long hills – fantastic choice, Pete. (Bunch size may just have reduced itself by half).

Always great to see your smiling face on top of another mountain in the sunshine, Jim – and to hear the adventures of the 3 amigos recounted with such candour and humour.
At the end of the day though, that Alpe is no Welshpool Road.

I have a fluid trainer that is a no-name brand but still works fine (it hasn’t had a great deal of use since I upgraded). Fluid trainers are fairly quiet and smooth; resistance is increased simply by changing gears. Good for a first trainer if you didn’t want to do intervals or generate a lot of power for any length of time. $50 would do.

Looks pretty soft.
Nah, really, it sounds fantastic (especially for a C grader) and the pictures do it some sort of justice. Absolutely drooling over the profiles you covered, but only if they were on dry tarmac. Thanks for the write-up.

Nic,
Check out the initial post here.
The 40 odd comments should give you a fair bit of information. There’s sure to be a follow-up post shortly as it’s the next major event on the road calendar (The Pickering Brook series and the Armadale Gran Fondo events notwithstanding).

Apropos the comments above and Pete’s editorial, there was a fall resulting in a head injury and an ambulance call in the early part of the hills ride this morning. It occurred around some holes in the road on […]

Beautiful photos and equally good piece of journalism, Tom. Very enjoyable read (and not just because of all the climbs). Thanks for taking the time to put together.

Wondering how long it would take.
No need to nitpick, ‘Twain’ (apparently new member). The post is simply a recap of my experiences using power data, presented here for those that are interested in learning a […]

Well done, V.P. A ride worthy of the title – and the man. More seriously, it was a very enjoyable way to put a lot of kilometres and elevation gain (and fall) into the legs. Thanks to all concerned.

The curve is deceptive because it assumes you are starting from zero when you start adding your power data, even if you have been training for a while and already have certain levels of fitness (blue) and fatigue […]

I’d like to tag along please (from Coode St.).
Have to be back home a little earlier (than the 146km might allow), so will skip the delights of the Wungong Dam and Banjup by coming down Albany Hway or Brookton […]

On Tuesday (Basque Country), AB/TM stayed away to win by 30 seconds. Prophetic, it was.

Make it a 99km early morning ‘Tony Martin’ breakaway for Mr Ballam and it’s a plan.

It is a lumpy, ‘Belgian’ style course – not cobbled but certainly a long way from smooth – and that is part of the challenge (which is why most like to race). The profile makes it a good test as you need to keep […]
