cyclo-sportif – swan valley 28th june

ok, we have the following teams registered tonight.  what happens is the team leader will pay for the entire team out of their own pocket.  it is then up to you to make sure that they get paid back on the day if not before.  for my team expect an email soon with my netbank details so you can deposit some funds.

the amount of dollars that each person had to pay is dependant on what type of licence you hold.  unfortunately, the cyclo-sportif club has decided that the recreational licence doesn’t count any more so if you have one of them or no licence, you have to pay $60.  if you have a cyclo-sportif licence or a full racing licence you pay $45.  if i have made a mistake with what i have on the list, you still need to pay you team captain but you should approach cyclo-sportif on the day to get a refund of the difference.

however, everyone will need to register as a “friend of cyclo-sportif”.  this is free and just allows them to take your details for insurance purposes.  go here to register as a “friend”.

the teams were set up to try to even up abilities across the teams, but there is always going to be a weakest link in a team.  the type of event that this is, it is up to your team to manage the fitness and skills so that you all make it across the line together.  no dropping riders and no riding up the road because people can’t keep up with you.  unlike the tour de france, it is not the fifth rider across the line that counts, but the last, so stick together.

after a couple of years of doing these events we have found the best technique is to stay in single file.  the rider at the front does a 30 sec turn then swings off and goes to the back.  as the race progresses, the stronger riders may need to take longer turns while the weaker ones take shorter.  best not to miss a turn as you will leave a gap.  if you are really struggling, just pull straight off after the rider in front has.  that 5 sec on the front will allow the others to get a rest too.

the teams are as follows

  SPR – A 78km       SPR – B 78km
1 Rob Ramsden $45   1 Lorraine Hartland $45
2 Peter Mah $45   2 Paul Owen $45
3 Brendan Nichol $45   3 Lisa Wood $45
4 Judd Otley $45   4 Mark Schnieder $45
5 Michael Bonner $45   5 Brett Maiden $60
6 Jerard Ghossein $45   6 John Phillips $45
7 Ryan Fynn $45   7 Mark DeCastro $45
8 Michael Wlasenko $45   8 Jason Cawthorne $60
  SPR – C 62km       SPR – D 62km
1 Russell Lagdon $60   1 Dave Pascoe $60
2 Nev Mills $60   2 Ian Waite $60
3 Greg Raper $60   3 Declan Coughlan $60
4 Gregor Urquhart $60   4 Frank Calcei $60
5 Mike Beecroft $45   5 Wye-Shun Fong $45
6 Sandra Samarin $60   6 Mike Tan $60
7 Daryl Cartner $60   7 Doug Herron $60

  1. one more thing i forgot.
if you don’t have a spr jersey then add a comment to here and let me know what size you are. i will try to organise some spares for the day.

    peter

  2. I must say I’m impressed by the numbers we have for this event – four teams, 30 riders for SPR is excellent!! Let’s have some fun out there 🙂

  3. hello, I will need to borrow a spr jersey. Either small or x-small should be ok for me.
    Thanks

  4. Hi Peter,

Thanks for the great organising. Unfortunately i dont have SPR jersey so if you have a M or a L avail that would be great thanks.
I’ll put an order in for some on the other post.

    Cheers,
    Jason

  5. Yep we will definatly be getting our Club colors out on the day 🙂 Greta to see how we are all gelling together in one big happy family of green 🙂 who would of gueesed hey Pete 😉

  6. Team C was paid for by myself, and Team D paid for by Ian ‘Wally’ Waite.

    Looking forward to getting wet?

  7. Hi Peter, I’d be grateful if I could borrow an M jersey, vest or jacket.
    Cheers

  8. I have 2 spare jerseys – both M. One is old style (aka Livingstone Optical), the other is new style (funny about that!). Am in South Perth. Cheers Stuart

  9. I’ll bring a spare small.

Just an addendum to the team strategy. Echelons are likely to be necessary if the South Westerlies are going to be blowing, which means diagonal lines across the whole lane unless overtaking down Lefroy Avenue (bikes pointing forward with some overlapping – look it up). Shorter stints of 15 – 20 seconds may be required into the wind (still gives 2 minutes rest out of the breeze).

One straight (the longer one down Campersic Rd) should have a predominantly tailwind, so a straighter roll-through approach might generate a faster average speed without ruining anybody’s legs. This is a chance to be fast and smooth (like Ryan).

So, a busy day for everyone adapting to the changing conditions on this lap course.

  10. Hi, I don’t have a jersey and would appreciate a loan. Female medium or Male small or medium should work. And any spare vests/jackets/water proof raincoats would be noice 🙂
Team C, maybe we should exchange some contact numbers, esp Captain Russell. Cheers, Sandra (sandra_samarin@hotmail.com)

  11. The B distance roll out from Speed Dome in midvale is at 9.15am for the neutral zone ride to the Herne Hill Primary School. The ‘race’ for the B distance will start straight after the last of the A distance leave from Hearne Hill Primary. I suggest the B distance teams (SPR team C and D) meet at the Speeddome at 8.30 am to make sure all signed up as friend, have race numbers/letters, distribute SPR gear and we have food and water for the ride. With an 8.30 am meet it sounds like a sleep in to me.

Pete where will the SPR Shelter be? And can we fit 30 riders adn support people under it?

  12. there will be no spr shelter at this event as it is being held at the speeddome and they are putting up stalls for companies etc (and charging them).
the velodrome was open last year to provide shelter and there are toliets and showers and change rooms.
one thing to note is as it is close to perth this event is quite popular and the carpark isn’t big enough for 600+ riders. unless you have a 4wd and can mount the kerb to park on the grass, i would get there early.
team captains need to get there early enough to collect the race numbers etc, and sort out any issues with payment.

  13. we now have jerseys organised for everyone that is racing.
please do not turn up too late as team captains need to distribute race numbers etc.
if it is the same as last year, best place to meet will be the big open back door to the velodrome. if that is not open then the front foyer is second choice.
looks like the weather will storm tonight and tomorrow night, but may be nice enough for us in the morning.
    see you all tomorrow.

  14. Well done SPR-D. Good fun and a good challenge. Look fwd to more cyclo-sportif events!!!!!! York anyone? Congrats to the raffle prize winner. Could he have been from SPR-D?
