the pinjarra classic is on this weekend and registrations need to be in by close of business on tuesday. this is one of my favourite races and as per usual, i have caught a cold this week. nevertheless, i intend to be there and have a crack at the hills.
the event is basically 15km of flat, then a climb, some rolling hills, a 10km descent and 6kms of flat to finish off. check out the attached maps and profile for more info. for the open men there are two laps of the course but for the support men and open women, you only have to go up the hill once. the last few years they have combined the support men with the open women so the field is quite big for this event.
i have mapped the route in mapmyride but the map, event flyer and profile are also shown below.
registration is here but remember entries close on the 10/08/2010 at 7:29pm perth time.
there are no longer any day licences for open events so you must have a full racing licence to participate.
add your name to the comments if you are intending to be there.

just registered for the support race, my first race 🙂 should be fun!
good stuff jono! Zacs cocktail fundraisers on sat night , love to race Sunday , its one or the other I think:(
I’ll be racing in the support race
Was going to but I’m off to Geelong to be the bike bitch (sorry, bike handler) for Anna.
I’ve booked myself a seat on the support train.
I will go and have a crack in support
When you say there are no more ‘day licenses’ that applies to the support race (65km) too?
the only place you can get day licences now is at club races. in this case peel (pdcc) run a bunch of club races on a saturday arvo that a bunch of our guys have been doing recently. we may need to orgainsie a “come and try racing” day and get a few riders down to them. sorry, jen, you will need to upgrade your licence if you want to race.
wow, that kinda sucks… i was about ready to plonk down my $77. now i have to spring for an ‘elite’ license if i ever want to race? i’m not sure i can live up to that label. is there a ‘n00b’ option?
and why 9 categories for masters, but all us young-to-middle-aged guys that are actually having the identity crises are just lumped into one category?
but seriously, a ‘come-and-try’ day with the PDCC sounds like a great idea Pete… if only for me to convince the CFO that I am such a formidable threat in the Perth racing circuit, therefore making it a more worthwhile investment of time and money than my kid’s extra-curricular education. (hah!)
I’m in for the 135 masters….. gosh. Anybody got any ideas on feeding zones or help with that….? I can probably rope the old girl into helping this race if we can get someone to help out on the Collie-Donnybrook next week. Apparently 5km zone where this can take place, just need someone to be there ;o) See you all there!!!! woooohooooo!!!!
Pretty sure that Peel will let you race a couple of times before requiring that you have an appropriate licence 🙂
In the club races that is – not Opens! (just clarifying!)
brodie, there isn’t a separate 130km masters race, i think they just work the placings out from within the total field. you will be racing with the ‘a’ grade guys in this case.
michael, we will organise something with the peel club as it gives people a chance to have a go.
I will be there in support.
For Collie-Donnybrook I don’t think there is any feeding or spares vehicles (there was not last year anyway). Not such an issue as it is only 100km.
I will be racing. open men for me.
Wouldn’t worry about a feed zone Brodie, 2 bidons and a few energy bars should be heaps for you mate. If you are that worried about fluids then get a smallish 200 – 350ml bottle of water from the shop, slip it into your jersey pocket and you can discard it after you have used it, by placing it in a bin of course. 😉
Matty
i have signed up for the support race. hopefully i will be over my cold by then and the time off the bike will count as “a taper”….hopefully.
Cheers Matty, still may work out somewhere to grab an extra bottle… I drink like a fish unfortunately and will smash quite a bit of fluid in that distance. Pete, thanks for the info mate-you are right… I had called CWA and PDCC to get the scoop prior to registering. Hopefully hang in there with the A dudes…. by the skin of my teeth.
Don’t worry Pete I’m in the same boat, felt the onset of the cold coming after the 200km ride.
havnt raced for ages , in support race, can’t wait !! Jono remember to wait up for me……….:)
so your going 2 race then dan?
Regret I won’t be there, but hope to do the Collie – Donnybrook. Have a good ride, all
I am spewing that I will miss this race (and CDB) this is such a good course for sorting the bunch out. Good luck crew – and don’t let anyone sneak off the front before that first hill (unless they are in green of course) c u on road soon.
