ok, so after my comments about summer coming early, i now find myself standing on a hill in geelong where the winds are screaming up from the antarctic. even with 4 layers of clothing on (2 being rain/wind jackets) i am still shivering whilst trying to hold a camera still. why??? because the world champs are on in geelong. yesterday i got to watch emma pooley smash the women’s tt and today i saw spartacus demolish the competition in the men’s tt. the hill these riders had to tt up was massive. definitely not a flat tt course so it was no surprise that the pocket rocket pooley took the prize. however, spartacus powered up the hill and was back into the big ring before he had even reached the top. good showing by the aussies too, and of course they got the biggest cheer. a couple more days of road races and the hill that they have picked has pinches of over 20%. the women tackle it 8 times and the men 11. should be carnage. will post more pictures as they are processed (over 600 shots from the men’s tt today) and will try to get on tv again. 🙂
golden spokes volunteers – we are involved in running our first race this year and so we need volunteers to help out with the golden spokes race at champion lakes. there has already been a post put out about it here. however, we really need some volunteers to help us out. there are not a lot of jobs to do, but it would be quite embarrassing if a club of our size can not even field 10 people to help run an event. you don’t need to be specially trained in anything and mostly we need line judges so you just write down people’s numbers as they cross the finish. so get involved and add your name to the comments on the previous post. UPDATE we have about half the volunteers that we need, so get involved.
state team time trial – we are putting together teams now for the state team time trial in mid october. this is a race and so you need a full racing licence. teams of 4 guys in open or masters (over 30) or 3 women. this is a lot like a cyclo-sportif as you ride with the people you know and you all have to stick together. put your name down here if you are interested. you don’t need a fancy tt bike to be able to play. UPDATE we have full teams, but can make more if more riders want to be involved.
ride routes – the saturday fast/main ride will take on scarborough beach road. the diversion into floreat is optional for teh fast group but can be skipped by the main groups. just continue down west coast hwy. will leave it up to the fast group to work out what they are doing on the day. on sunday, the short course will have the option of getting up to coffee via zig zag, gooseberry or kalamunda roads. will leave it up to the group to decide which route to take.
