many of you would know mat fletcher, the tall, lanky guy that rides with us quite a bit. well his house is in kelmscott and was well within the evacuated zone yesterday. i did the earlybird ride with him at 5:30am sunday morning and by the afternoon, his neighbourhood was on fire. however, even though he was very, very close to the start of the fire, his house seemingly has been spared. neighbours all around have lost everything, but mat’s house is still standing. he is about 200m away from the main bridge up brookton hwy which is no longer standing. we obviously won’t be planning any ride routes up brookton hwy for a while.

John G lives up that way as well doesn’t he? Any news on him?
john g is on the other side of the hill in bedfordale. he is ok and helped mat go back and put out spot fires after it has gone through.
scary!
Fark! It’s odd how fire works. Thankful Mat’s ok.
We spent most of yesterday afternoon helping a friend that lives on Peet Road decide where to go. Her dear’s away & had to make a split decision. She’s now safe at a friends house but isn’t sure about her house. Although the FESA & ABC are a wealth of info, you often have to rely on friends on the ground for the juicy info.
Fingers crossed the wind co operates with the Emergency services tonight as the fire’s not 100% under control yet. I know two more people who live on or very close to Peet Road & have no idea how they are.
