it all comes down to this. all that training for one day. i think we know pretty much every bump in that circuit by now. by the end of 8 laps, my butt will know them all too well.
uci road race – so a few of the boys took a trip over to rottnest for some uci tt action and well done to them. especially jason who managed 12th overall. the focus now turns to the road race around kings park. as you would have seen in a previous post, we have quite a few spr riders involved. the race starts at 7:30am and will complete up to 8 laps of the kings park circuit. there is a feedzone at the top of the malcolm st hill where we will attempt to set up an spr tent to hand out water bottles to the competitors. after your saturday morning ride come along to watch as we will appreciate the support.
3/5 dams – there are a few spr riders that are attempting the 3 & 5 dams ride on sunday. there are even a couple that i have seen on both the uci and dams start list. makes me feel a bit soft. good luck to those that are involved.
easter camp – this is on the following weekend so we need to get things finalised. i have set up a page which duplicates the previous post. there is an accommodation link at the bottom which lists who is coming for which nights and whether they are in the dorm or tent. if you are no longer coming or want to be added to the list please get in contact with us via email. the itinerary currently only has the rides, but we will add the other family activities to it soon. hope to see you there.
ride routes – i will be tackling the uci race on saturday, so i leave you in the hands of julian for the day. currently we do not have a ride leader for the transitional group, so it would be good if someone from the faster groups volunteered to ensure that people learn the correct techniques. the saturday ride routes both come home from the east as mounts bay road will be closed to traffic. sunday will try to get a glimpse of the dams ride as it rides the other way.

We will also need someone to help with Main 3 for the next 2 Saturdays as I will be at the race tomorrow and away for Easter.
Ridge friggin’ Hill? Can’t flippin’ believe it. Let’s do Friday’s route as our Saturday’s route. Tiz the best. Thks to anorexic Jordon for dragging us round most of it. Be sure to keep an eye on the state of your cycle shorts, chappies; we have a knicks nazi in our midst who is making it her mission to rid the gang of thinning lycra exposing too much … ahem .. “crack”.
first Friday early-bird for me this morning, and you’re right @lennie, ’twas a good one indeed.. and as for that anorexic @jordanbrock, just don’t spend too much time studying his britches, he gets a little self-concious..
*blinks*
I had considered getting up for the Friday ride as i too had heard good things however, now i read this it just sounds plain strange! You can keep your “crack” cult to yourselves.
A little feedback from M2 last week: Unfortunately we had a fall on the way home. it was at the roundabout at the bottom of the Plain st hill. One of our riders got the front wheel trapped in a concrete channel between the ‘cobbles’ and came down. Another couple of riders got caught up in the fall and came down also. Everyone was basically OK with minor(ish) grazes and scrapes, but one bike looks like it may be trashed with a crushed seat stay. Nobody was doing anything unsafe or riding dangerously at the time, but it does remind us to expect the unexpected on a ride and to always have an escape route in view.
Hopefully this weekend we and all SPR riders in the UCI event get around fast, safe and upright.

It’s never nice to hear about a rider (or three) having a fall. I’m glad to read they have got out of it (relatively) ok.
RIP to the damaged bike.
That East Perth roundabout has been the scene of many “near misses” in the several times I have ridden through there with the Main 1 group
Every one was for exactly the same reason as that which caused the M2 fall – the concrete channel in the middle of the “cobbled” road surface that follows the radial line of the roundabout. It will trap a wheel and down you go!
The easy solution is to not ride over the channel but simply keep one side or the other, ie follow the shape of the roundabout around rather than cut through on a ‘racing line’.
I have banged shoulders twice with other riders – me going ‘around’ and them going “through” .
It’s just a road feature that needs to be taken at a much slower speed than most other roundabouts.
I know none of this helps the sore M2 riders from last week, but hopefully reminding SPR via this blog may help change rider behaviour on that particular intersection.

Re the incident with the truck this morning on Bushmead Rd. I have filed a police report and contacted the company with the license plate of the trailer, 1TBH 774. The company is Chemtrans and the phone number is 6274 9604. I spoke to the State Manager, John McGlone and he was quite receptive. I encourage others to contact him.
Re Sunday Ride. Can someone please collect the points for this wek and then next 3 weeks as I’ll be otherwise occupied on holidays.
Thanks, Julian
ps. Thanks David for the phone number of Chemtrans. They’ll certainly be getting a phone call from me.
K…I know it’s a longer than usual long weekend coming up plus quite a few folks heading to the Easter camp thing so I have to ask…Will I be the only person from transitional doing the sat ride?
Too many choices for rides this saturday…Long long dirt ride, medium roadie ride or SPR “am i going to get totally left behind and end up on my own because no one from the t’s are there”…
