ride routes 15th & 16th oct

so, a couple of weeks ago i complained that i wanted winter back as it was too cold and too wet in spring.  well now we are looking at having to race in 35 degree heat on sunday.  maybe i will keep my big mouth shut.  the weather is getting warmer so we will also get more people out on our rides.  the ride etiquette has been discussed a lot the last couple of weeks, but just remember, what others do in the group can affect you.  if you see someone doing something that you think is unsafe, then tell them, don’t just wait for a ride leader to pick them up on it.  be in charge of your own safety.

main 2 – some of you may have seen a familiar face on some recent tv ads.  well, russell is in charge of main 2 and it’s his job to look after them.  we agree.

state team time trial – we have a very good representation at this event.  hopefully we will have 8 teams competing with some people racing for the very first time.  we will take the tent down to provide some shade as they are predicting 35 deg.

spr club breakfast –  this will be held at the park next to where we start after the ride on the 22nd oct. there will be a bbq and muffins and drinks etc. see the previous post and put your name down so we can get an idea of numbers. there will be a sizing kit available for the new kit order and we will open orders after the breakfast.

ride routes – new ride route this saturday for the main/fast groups.  make sure you have a good look at where we are going as missing a turn could mean extra kms for you, or worse cause an accident in the group.  this also comes home a different way straight along stirling hwy.  we will see how it goes.

  1. Happy to help out in Main 1.5 or 2, though the new route goes right in front of my house, so the temptation to abandon the group early may be overwhelming 🙂

  2. hahaha.. we have a celebrity group leader!
Do not recognise Russell without his Baum, Lycra and Helmet though. Who is this plain clothed guy?

  3. Just a heads up there are quite a few big pot holes on main street, so be careful and remember to call out and point out any hazards.

  4. Big shout out for Carlos who came off on the Friday ride this morning. We will be doing a fund raiser to get the curse lifted from you.
    Hope you are ok.
    Nick

    1. Hell what bad ‘luck’ – maybe my current cold, restricting time on the bike, was a blessing in disguise – it coulda been me..
Hope the injuries are minor and the damage is small
      cheers

  5. Thanks to everyone who helped out today I feel glad that I belong to such a great club….I think pretty much everyone stopped for me today a special thanks to Jorgy for the offer of the lift home your a champ and to John,Mat and the rest of the boys who kept me in good spirits…feeling very sore now but nothing broken should be back on the bike in a week or less pending catch you all soon….:-)

  6. Carlos, I’ve never known a cyclist with more bad luck than you. Maybe you should run around your bike 3 times anti-clockwise, and then mount facing North-Northwest, before each ride.
And is that really Russell? Main 2 leader Russell? Really?!!!

  7. any feedback from the new ride route today??? good or bad, i would like to know, especially if there is anything we need to change.

  8. I liked the ride today, lots of long straights (better for those without Garmin directions!) and good opportunities to practice those much talked about roll throughs. It was a shame we seemed to get stopped at every set of lights, my strava performance graph reads like an ECG!
Lots of nice double laned roads which always makes the rides safer. Ummm i think that’s all i can think of.
Nice to do a different route, thanks for those who take the time and effort to research/drive/map these.

  9. Yep – I concur on the ride route today; lots of open, two lane roads with some pinchy hills to sort the wheat from the chaff ;-)). Main 1 (and I suspect Fast) went via Dalkieth and even though it’s a bit longer, I’d suggest that being a standard inclusion would be welcomed.

  10. Peter, Main 2 also went via Dalkieth. Stirling highway looked busy and we decided that an extra km or two was better than dicing with lots of cars making abrupt turns off the highway.

Otherwise very good. Good feedback on Morely Drive – smooth surface and some little hills at the end. Main Streer is a bugger with lots of potholes.

    Apart from that, all good
