ride routes 17th – 23rd march

so i came across a couple of interesting health articles in the online paper this week.  one was on that always popular myth, that men who ride bikes have erectile dysfunction issues.  the amount of riders we have that have kids should be a good indication that this may not be true, but it still gets thrown back at us occasionally when talking to a non-cyclist.  the study found that as long as you had a good bike fit, then when compared to swimming and running, there was no difference in bedroom performance.  this is just another reason to get the bike set up correctly, it is not just sore knees and numb hands that are helped by sitting correctly for all those hours. if you haven’t had a proper bike fit, then book in for one.  your future children will thank you.

the second article was titled “when we lose weight where does it go“.  i found it quite an interesting article especially since cyclists generally lose weight as they get into it and there are a number of success stories from within the club that back that up. so despite the misconceptions that fat just disappears or turns into muscle, what actually happens is that it gets converted mostly to water and carbon dioxide.  so you actually breath out the majority of what you burn and then sweat or wee out the rest.  so remember, next time you are breathing hard up the climb, you are breathing fat on everyone.

spr club photo – it is on again.  this saturday 17th march we will have another crack at doing a club photo.  please turn up a few minutes earlier so we can get everyone organised.  no helmets or sunglasses and current club kit only.  if you don’t have the current knicks, then you are in the back row.

spr agm and breakfast – the south perth cycle club annual general meeting (agm) will be held this saturday,   17 march 2018 at 9am.  it will be held at dome westralia plaza (5/167 st georges terrace, perth) following the usual saturday ride. see the previous post for further details about voting, nominations and breakfasts.

which ride for me – after the changes that the club introduced over the last couple of weeks, we have had another look at our guide for choosing the ride group for you to ride in.  this concentrates primarily on the transitional through to main 3 rides, but still makes some very good points that all out riders should remember.  see the previous post for all the details.

city of kalamunda cycling survey – the city council has put together a draft bicycle plan and are requesting feedback from riders who use the area.  there is some good work in there and the city of kalumunda has even identified “training roads” as areas where the more endurance based riders choose to ride.  have a look at the draft plan and click on the link to give feedback. we need to ensure that the results are not just some of the more vocal cyclist hating residents that we have had to deal with.

town of vic park and city of south perth cycling survey – the city of south perth and the town of vic park have pooled resources and are looking at what they need to provide for cyclists.  again, have a look at the draft plan and give some feedback.

saturday start locations – we have revamped the group start locations on saturday morning.  please have a look at the map so you know where your group will congregate.  this makes it easier for ride leaders to give you a briefing before the ride starts.  see the previous post for more details.

ride routes – as we did for the last breakfast at xmas, we are trying to get the groups back to the cafe as simultaneously as possible so that people are available to participate in the agm.  as such we will not only be sending main2/3/4 off first, but we will send them on a different route to fast/main.  all of this after the club photo.
