Ride Routes 27th April – 3rd May

I hope everyone has had a good week, particularly with the Anzac Day Public Holiday, whether you chose to race in the MCC crit, ride the Public Holiday Ride or take time for reflection.

Two things to reminder everyone of this week — if you are interested in riding the Tour of Margaret River with SPR, our information evening is this week. All the details below.

And we have the first of our dinners for the Grand Tours coming up on 14 May. Again, all the details below.

For those racing the Tom Lowry, do well.

See you out on the bike.

Canning Road E-Petition — A City of Kalamunda resident has a launched a WA Government petition to make Canning Road safer for cyclists – or create a bypass.

The petition states Canning Road, “is narrow, winding, has no sealed shoulders, frequently no shoulders, high kerbs with steep drop-offs in places, restricted sight-lines, and large trees within 1 metre of the carriageway. Kangaroos cross it.”

“It is unsafe for ALL road users, but particularly so for cyclists.”

It calls for the Government to, “prioritise the remediation of this serious road safety issue,” and calls out, “A designated Cycleway connecting Brockton Highway and Glenisla Road…” as a safer option.

Member for Thornlie Chris Tallentire MLA supports the petition, and shares the concerns about riding on riding on parts of Canning Road.

SPR French Alps Trip 2024 — The French Alps are calling cyclists – don’t miss out – only three places left!! 💚

The itinerary, quality hotels, fully equipped support vehicles provided throughout the trip is truly remarkable for a very affordable price. Thirteen Main 2 riders have already signed up for the SPR French Alps cycle trip with Christophe so don’t miss out – itinerary attached.

Racing this weekend – If you want to race, or get in on the action watching others race, read on.

1. Perth Hills Gran Fondo

2. CCC Tom Lowry Memorial Road Race

Juniors Ride — Great turnout two weeks ago with a number or new and returning riders. Thanks everyone for coming along. I also want to remind that there will be no SPR junior rides on 20 and 27 April as we have leaders away — check back in the following week for details when we resume!

From the Ride Coordinator — Passing other cyclists is a regular feature of our group rides. Identifying a good place to overtake and using good communication is essential to ensure the manoeuvre is completed safely. Discuss the move (single file) within the group first, before letting the group in front know you are there and of your intent to pass.

IMPORTANT: We have changed the start time of our Sunday Hills rides back to our winter time of 7am. Take note 🥶
