Don’t do it for me; do yourself a favour. Get out and enjoy the most challenging road course CycleSport WA currently has to offer.
(P.S. I have no control over what the lovely SPR race committee aka Dave Manners writes in these things). -

I don’t think he has, Bill: apart from Malcolm St and Scarborough Beach Rd’s gradual climb, there’s a nice 12% pinch (for 200m or so) on the steep side of Hale Rd that’s guaranteed to burn the legs.
A re-group point is possible at the Hale School carpark on the corner of Unwin Ave, near my office.
For the Fast group, there’s the downhill on…[Read more]

Really well done, Laurensia, and testimony to your growth as a rider. It was enjoyable to read your report and compare it to last year’s, especially the happy ending this year.
You’ve got to set some new goals now; I believe there’s a new Challenge in Queensland in August. -

Paul,
Quite a few people from the club will be doing this, judging by today’s training ride on the course. For some, it will be a race, for others it’ll be more of a participation ride.
As it is a qualifying event for the World Masters champs in Denmark, specific 5 or 10 year age groups may start at different times, with men and women also…[Read more] -

American Andrew,
We went out to have a look at this course on Wednesday, just gone (this week). The first of our training rides start this Sunday at 6:00am – have a look at the SPR blog post here.
It is a tough ride as it takes you into Perth’s typical easterly winds on warm days before the hills start. Club riders will be using it as their…[Read more]

Some footage of the ride and the UWCT course courtesy of Paul Shenton can be found here.
Looks pretty good (in the brochure). -

Only if we’re going for the least used hashtag on the interweb, Andrew Ballam. Brian waits patiently on the climbs for me these days. Hope to see you both there – and not on your indoor trainers – in the morning.

Down on the shores of the Swan river there is a car park for a boat ramp and the Wesley College rowing sheds. If you come down Coode St, keep straight on until you hit the water (more or less).

Louis,
Taking into account a bit of wind and the amount of climbing (3 reasonable hills), I/we would hope to keep up our usual Sunday hills ride pace (usually averaging 29 – 30 km/hour). Regroups will occur at the tops of climbs, along with a couple of tap stops for water.

UCI (UWCT) Gran Fondo reccy ride – Wednesday 6:30am from Coode St. car park.
(Forecast: 17 – 32 celsius)
I’m going to have a look at most of the UWCT course on Wednesday before we attempt to take bigger training groups up Toodyay Rd on Sundays in the New Year.
It looks a long way so I’d be keen for some company if anyone – on holidays like me -…[Read more] -

If the groups are biggish, doing a right turn at the High Rd lights might be an issue. We could go straight down Wilier Drive as usual and then use the sweeping roundabout before the Roe Hway overpass (Collins Rd) to take us through to Vahland (left turn) and then on to South St and back on course.

The Bonners would also like to join the social crew for a drink and a nibble at their local.
