winter is over in the northern hemisphere and the big boys have come out to ride their bikes. strade bianche, paris-nice and tirreno-adriatico all had/have some big names involved. back home we are finishing up our criterium series but there was also some good racing down at pemberton and both the spr and DOME teams rode well. there were some unfortunate accidents, though. check out the footage from des’ gopro in the ‘b’ grade road race. just a friendly reminder for those riding this weekend…don’t brake, don’t overlap wheels, keep control of your bike. stay safe.
it is also the state election on saturday, so don’t forget to vote after the morning’s ride.
junior champs, final criterium and women’s race – this weekend we will be holding a criterium with the rccc that will try to cater for pretty much everyone. add your name to the comments on the previous post if you can help out. more info can be found here.
club agm and breakfast – our club agm will be held on the 16th march after the saturday morning ride. to assist in getting numbers to the agm, we will also be having our quarterly breakfast. check the previous post here and make sure you put your name in the comments so we know how many to cater for.
giro d’perth – a different type of event to help get your family involved in cycling. registrations have been extended till the 12th and so far there are just under 400 riders registered. more info here.
next kit order – kit orders are currently open and close midnight, 10th march. more details here.
ride routes – we need volunteers for the criterium on sunday, but i realise that people will do their own hills ride anyway. as such i have still scheduled a ride in, but if you can swing by afterwards, it would be appreciated the crits will be going till after 12:30 so you should still be able to find time after your ride. hot windy day on saturday with a high potential for rain. should be good. then you need to vote.

There will be a sample of the different jacket / vest options at Dome on Saturday (eg wind vest, winter vest, thermojacket, thermofleece…). Effectively the different options have a different warming factor…so if you are confused, take a look and see what will work best for you.
TOBY bring the hoodie back.. I want to see it 🙂
it’s waiting at the shop for you Roz. As are the 3 other bags of kit samples. happy to help.
Thanks Toby to you and your staff for always being so accommodating with storing kit samples etc. Much appreciated!
Benara… Weeeeeeee heeeeeeeee … :@)
Need a ride leader for Main 1/Fast group for Saturday – I’m on little aths duty. Someone please step up and take control.
For Sunday – anyone keen on a 6 am start. I’ve got to be back to aths in Langford by 8.45 am, so a changed route may need to be considered.
Cancel this. On aths duty again Sunday so it will be a very short ride.
I’m in for a short hills ride (maybe Welshpool / Canning and back) starting 6am. Let me know
Benara Weeee heeee (just as long as you don’t go faster than Lennie can go..)..
Woo hoo..
Sloooooooooooooooooooooowing…
🙁 I can’t help Sunday Pete.. I am swimming in the Jetty to Jetty swim.
Did anyone hear sumfink? Woz it a rat squeaking? haven’t heard that annoying sound for so long i’d clean forgotten wot it sounded like
well done Des on on your ride, and a great clip.
some pretty tough racing there.
So I had a look at the slow-mo of the crash in the video… I can see who goes down first but any idea as to what caused the crash? Did his front wheel clip the bike in front?
i suspect he overlapped wheel in front and then baulked himself into a fall.
as Shano just noted to me good thing it didn’t happen 5 seconds earlier – check the
car towing the boat Vs where some of the boys land.
maybe we need to show these vids to the organisers and see if
we can come up with a better plan for races. this isn’t first time
vehicle traffic on roads during races makes me shudder due to a
close one.
no easy solution though i know.
The solution is actually not that difficult.
Petition race organisers to ensure they have total or “rolling” road closures for the appropriate roads whilst racing.
Get them to develop their road traffic management plans early, submit them, have them approved and then supply qualified traffic management people to ensure no car-v-cycle clashes (especially of the “head-on whilst towing a boat” variety).
Oh, and of course, be prepared to pay for the service (as part of your entrance fee).
Or get the cheaper option and be prepared to take the risk.
