renae’s race – 16th feb

In memory of Renae Baker, Renae’s Race is a day where the ladies racing takes centre stage!

RCCC and SPR are pleased to announce that this year all proceeds from Renae’s Race will go to support Heart Kids WA. Heart Kids is a charity dedicated to providing support, encouragement and hope to faimlies of children with heart disease, while raising awareness and funding into the causes of this chronic disease.

Date: Sunday the 16th of February
Cost: $30 per rider (E grade $20)

E Grade: 7.30am 15 minutes plus 2 laps
D Grade: 7.50am 20 minutes plus 2 laps
C Grade Men: 8.15am 25 minutes plus 2 laps
B Grade Men: 8.50am 30 minutes plus 2 laps
A Grade Men: 9.30am 40 minutes plus 2 laps
C Grade Women: 10.20am 25 minutes plus 2 laps
B Grade Women: 10.20am 30 minutes plus 2 laps
Renae’s Race for A Grade Women: 11.00am 40 minutes plus 2 laps

This is an open race, registrations must be completed online. However day licenses and three ride permits are available.

Heart Kids WA will be selling hot dogs and drinks on the day to raise funds, please support them. There will be no prize money as ALL proceeds will be going to HeartKids WA inc.

We encourage everyone to come down and celebrate the memory of Renae Baker, support women’s cycle racing and this worthwhile charity.

Any donations of prizes etc will be welcomed.

renae’s race – 19th feb

this weekend, the sdcc will be holding renae’s race at the technology park circuit.  this is a race that is dedicated to the memory of renae baker and aims to promote women’s cycling and racing.  as such, the main event is the women’s race, with the men’s races being held in support.  this is a great opportunity for anyone that wants to give racing a go and there will be a women’s “b” grade for those that want to get a start.  the circuit is familiar to most of you and it is short enough that you will not feel left in the middle of nowhere if you get dropped.

the club will be there in support and we will provide a tent and drinks to all that are racing that day.

entries close at midnight tuesday (tonight) so get involved.  without support, women’s racing cannot expect to flourish and without the numbers, organisers will not cater specifically for women.

registration is through the new IMG system and requires your username and password that cycling australia sent you when you joined.  if you cannot remember them, let me know and i can find them for you.  if you are racing under a day licence, then select the “non-member” category under each race.

Upcoming Racing

There are a couple of races coming up at the end of the month at which SPR will be having a fair presence.
Firstly we have Renae’s race on 22 Feb with entries closing next Tuesday 17 Feb. This is a Criterium race with the feature event being the Women’s race. There are races for all grades and I would encourage all to get along and enjoy what should be a great mornings entertainment. These races are held in Technology Park so you won’t have to travel too far, bring the family and cheer on some familiar faces.
Some of us will then be travelling a little further to participate in the Pemberton Classic on the weekend of the 28th Feb. This is a two part weekend featuring a criterium on Saturday with a road race on the Sunday. Entries for this event close on Feb 24 so plenty of time to book your leave and accomodation. A bunch of us are making a weekend of this so there should be some interesting stories to follow.
We will soon be posting a schedule of races for the year including cyclo sportif events that we as a club will be targeting. We will be entering teams across as many grades as we can and hope to see you out there cheering, helping or racing.
