Delirium 24hr Update

Quick update. El Prez (Peter Mah) has completed 360kms in 12hrs 30mins. Lets keep this g rated …….. his bottom is sore. He wants too and I have encouraged him to take a 3 hour break. Time for some sleep. Then he can get up and do an early bird / flat hills ride. TXT him your support and help him get through this hell of a challenge. I bet 11am can not come soon enough.

UCI World Cycling Tour Helpers

I have already let Peter know I’m putting my hand out to help out with supporting this event this year. As most know it will not be around King Park like in years past it is out at Perry Lakes.

I will be picking up the tents from Peters place on Friday night (Hopefully it all fits in Rhians car). However on the day will need a couple of other helpers for setting up the tents.

Anyone else who is free to help setup and yell and scream like in years past either leave your name in the comments or SMS me on 0412 850 501.

PMBC & Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain Biking Presents Giant Bicycles XC Club Race 1

mtbWell it’s that time of year again. MTB season is upon us and the 1st race of the season is a PMBC Club race next weekend 17th March at Langford Mountain Bike Park, Jarrahdale.
Show on Google maps: Meeting point.

As we progress towards being an MTBA affiliated club lets get a few members down there in the kit for the 1st race of the year.

This series is proudly being organized and supported by Rock ‘n’ Roll Mountain Biking and the series is proudly being sponsored and supported by Giant Bicycles Australia.
Rego

Is now open at: https://www.registernow.com.au/mtba/ERegister.aspx?E=1392

The race entries are $15.00 for all grades. A current MTBA membership is required to race. A day license can be purchased if you don’t have a MTBA membership. Entries close at 11 pm Thursday 14/3/2013. There is a $20 late fee for entering on the day (NO Exceptions).

Race Classes
The club races will be run as mixed classes. The idea is to hopefully have some exciting, fun and close racing. It will give you the chance to race against riders not normally in your class and to grade yourself for the upcoming state rounds. Below is a guide to help you determine which class would best suit you.
A Grade = Elite Men, Expert Men, Top 3-5 Masters, Top 5 Vets (30 to 50 riders)
B Grade = Elite women, 5 – 10 masters, 6 – Vets Men, Top 3 Sport Men (40 to 50 riders)
C Grade = Expert Women, Super masters, Sport Etc (40 to 50 riders)
D Grade = Sport women, Juniors etc (40 to 50 riders)
Please note: we will change your class if we feel you are clearly in the wrong grade.

Race Distances
The courses will be shorter and faster tracks. We will be trying to keep the racing close and fun, so the tracks will reflect this, with fast flowing single-track and limited climbing.
A and B Grades= Approx 1.30hrs
C and D Grades= Approx 1.00hrs
We will set the number of laps for each grade once the course has been selected.

Race Day Schedule
Registration = 8am to 9am (collect race numbers)
C and D Grades= 9:15am (first wave)
A and B Grades= 10.45am (second wave)
Presentations = 12.30 pm (or a bit earlier if possible)

Giant Bikes Test Bikes
As part of their sponsorship Giant will be at both races with a range of test bikes. Feel free to test one of their great bikes; just remember to bring your pedals, drivers licence and credit card for a ride.

Fundraising: Gold Coin Donation.

Once again BBQ and Drinks will be provided by Rock and Roll Mountain Biking. We ask you to bring a gold coin donation; all money raised will be used for junior development and trail maintenance with PMBC.

Rubbish
DEC will be removing rubbish bins from some DEC managed properties, including Langford Park. Please take your rubbish home with you PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. If you don’t, one of the PMBC volunteers has to. Rubbish cannot stay on site after we have left. That goes for gels and bars, it’s not the world championships, please don’t discard your wraps on the race track.

Saturday 19th Jan Main 1.5

I compiled a video from yesterdays Main 1.5 ride. It is a little long and a little rough. It is the first one I have compiled since getting the camera so few lessons learned. I have included the full length of Benara Road start to finish. This starts from around the 14 minute mark. I’m sure all who were not on the ride will find this pretty boring. However if you were in the group I know you will spot yourself.

Anyways video is below.

Sweat & Sand Cyclocross – Claremont Showgrounds

Perth Mountain Bike Club hosted WA’s inaugural cyclocross race last Saturday. The venue was a novel one, Claremont Showgrounds and the course design showed some imagination. It took in some grass, some asphalt, drains, driveways, gutters and a couple of traditional cyclocross barriers and man-made water feature (sprinkler…). Oh and it was hot. Somewhere in the order of 34 degrees or more.
I think there was about thirty punters in the end on a smattering of actual ‘cross bikes, roadies and mountain bikes. I was amazed at how many ‘cross bikes there were actually… where do they normally get ridden? Never see them out on the trails! My ‘cross steed functions as my commuter so I was well equipped except for my slick tyres. I was pretty sure I wouldn’t be bunny-hoping the barriers like some during practice though!
A short and sharp effort would be the order of the day in C grade with fellow SPR alumni’s Scott and Morrison. Morrison was on a roadie and Fairy also gave his roadie it’s first outing since God only knows when!
First lap or so was people spreading out and getting comfortable. Morrison was up there going well but perhap finding the corners tricky on the skinny tyres. A SWCC rider was going well too. When two riders binned it before the barriers on one lap I was dirty that I wasn’t ready for it and couldn’t take full advantage. Lesson learned and I was unclipped early before the obstacles after that. It wasnt long before PMBC racer Ms McAllum went to the front. I stayed with her for a bit before sliding past and having a go out in front. Was fun for bit before I muffed getting clipped in after the short uphill pinch obstacle and Mr SWCC and Morrison passed me. Not long after another rider came through and I was cooked. I thought I might catch him again on the flat grass sections but couldn’t quite get there. As it was I was lucky to hold fourth and not get chicked by Simone who had not dropped too far back. Mr SWCC had streaked away for the win with Morrison second.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to hang about till the other grades were completed but SPR moonlighter Uppers managed 4th in A grade (and the first on a roadie) and by all accounts appeared to have enjoyed himself!
I had a ball and I’m really hoping that PMBC use this course (or something similar) again. It’s definitely something different and a novel style of racing (at least in Oz). Mad props to Greg and Paul from PMBC for organising and running it. I hear the second and third races are on the cards but not till January and probably using the Garvey Park dirt crit course. (Which I don’t mind but prefer this Claremont layout).

Results can be found here.

I had some footage of the race but my camera was pointed too far down so it wasn’t very interesting.  FAIL.  Must try harder. However some other footage from the race organisers can be found here.

Cheers,
Dave

Swan Valley Cyclo Sportif 2011

Mike Tan has now bugged me twice about this so I figured I should put up a post and get the ball rolling. Last year the club had a total of around 7 teams entered this event. The event is on the 26th of June and registrations are now open.

I am sure El Prez wants another strong showing at this event this year and I am sure we can out-do our numbers from last year. From what I remember we got together a list of all those that were interested and then El Prez sorted everyone into groups.

Summary of the information for the event.

Date: Sunday 26th June 2011
Start Time: 9.00am
Location: Midvale Speed Dome
Distances: A – 80 km, B – 64km, C – 32 km (approx distances)
Timing Cut-off: 12:45pm
Lunch: from 11:30am
Presentations: 1:15pm approx.

Cost: $75 non BWA members

Pdf of more information here swan_valley_cyclo_sportif_2011-Intro_Course_Overview

We need team leaders to pay the money for each team up front and then the members will then need to pay back the team leaders. No refunds will be given if you pull out. It is best to have people of the same abilities grouped together.

In order to make this year easier to manage I have created a quick form to gather a few details of people who are interested. If you are please complete the form below. I promise I will not sell your details to a marketing company.

For now Just use this link to view the form until I can get Mike to allow the form to be embedded

Should have got out of bed

This is just a quick post to rub it into all those that didn’t get up and ride this morning. We had a great turnout for the Friday ride today. I think it’s a safe say it was the largest turnout for a Friday yet. Least of the ones I have attended.

Possibly today being the first dry day of the week had something to do with it. For those who  have not attended a Friday SPR ride it is well worth it. Easily the most relaxed ride of the week and a great route. Only pressure cooker section is through Shelly but we always wait for those that get dropped.

So those that hit the snooze button instead of getting out of bed today this is just to make you feel guilty for the rest of the day 🙂
