ride routes 24th, 25th & 26th april

cycling wa meeting – a new board was elected this evening.  i will let you know what is going on once everything is finalised.  expect a “state of the nation” blog soon.

racing – mtb in pemberton this weekend.  busso half ironman next saturday and lowry memorial road race in collie on sunday.  look on the blog for more details.

calendar – scott has installed a new calendar to show the club events.  it shows the entire month and each event is colour coded.  we will update this as we go but you can at least see what is coming up.  our next social event will be the annual social day lunch.  unlike the breakfast, this is not directly after a ride, but at lunchtime at a venue to be arranged.  usually we hold it close to the 9th or 10th of may which is when we first moved to coode st, but this year we have left our run a bit late and need more time to get things sorted.  it will be held on the 22nd may and will be combined with my birthday which is on the 25th.  i figure that i would be inviting the same people anyway.  keep your eye on the blog for more details, but it basically allows your partners an opportunity to see these other people you spend so much time with.

tipping comp – the spring classics tipping comp is coming to a close and there is a bit of a battle for the final placings.  don’t get too dismayed if you weren’t involved or suffer withdrawals as we will be starting a giro tipping comp pretty much strat away as it starts in couple of weeks.

weekend rides – apparently it is a long weekend this weekend.  it kind of crept up on me.  the rides are listed below and as usual there will be a public holiday ride on the monday.  as sunday is anzac day, there are a couple of people attending the dawn service at kings park.  they will meet at the bottom of mount st at 6am and then attend the service at sunrise.  it finishes at 7am and then they will ride to the hills ride start.  as such the hills ride will start about 10min later this week as we will wait for them to attend.

  1. its the reverse of a few weeks ago and if the wind is the same will be a worse slog into the wind. Should be good.

  2. I hate gooseberry, been so long since I did a proper hill, please wait for me fellas (and chicks if any are game to come play with us).

  3. I hate Gooseberry asmuh as the next (walking anyone), but i’m so keen that i’m tempted to live off cold an flu drugs just so i can join you guys!!

  4. This weekend is also the start of Peel Districts road season. Racing starts at 14:00 and there are normally 4 grades so literally anyone who rides with SPR at any level can find a grade to race in. Typically you might go a grade up compared to what you would do in a larger race, e.g. if you are normally looking for a good result in C grade for something like the Peter Clark then you would race B grade at club level. The first race is at Wandi (masters also race there and there is a TT there too?) which is a very flat course, but it can get a strong headwind some days. Their website is http://www.pdcc.asn.au. PDCC are good as they are one of the few clubs that have very regular racing throughout the year, they also really appreciate support from other clubs and everyone there is really friendly and helpful, they are just looking for a good hit out and there are not any big egos there.

  5. This weekend and by popular demand – SPR “Developers” will be on the same route as the Transitionals – via the Brewery, Nedlands, Mosman Park, Swanbourne and Curtin Ave down to Jarrad St. in Cott – cross the rail line for the turn around and come back the same way but using the bike path back along Mounts Bay. Its a shorter distance but has a few genteel lumps and there’s a nice shortcut via Wharatah Ave which can be taken in both directions. Carol & co will lead out the pack and I’ll sweep as usual to make sure we get home together . . . even aim to get back to the Bell in time for coffee along with the others.
    cheers Mark_S

  6. The Mur de Gooseberry. Oh well at least we don’t have to do it three times like the Mur de Huy.

  7. I reckon a 1 minute regroup at the top of Gooseberry is the go… I’m carrying a bit of junk in the trunk at the moment and the hill will be hurting me some 🙂

  8. The service at kings park starts at 6am. If you meet at 6am you will miss it. From what I remember last year it finished by 6:30 am so we should get to the ride start on time.

I’m planning on getting there for 5:30 or so. Hopefully will be able to see a screen.
