time trial helmets

if you are looking at doing time trials or triathlons in the future, you will want to try to get the best aerodynamical advantage that you can.  a time trial helmet can take vital seconds off your times so are a must when racing the clock.  there are very few tt helmets that have been passed by the australian standards, and you need to get an approved helmet to compete in time trials (triathlons have different rules).

anyway, as was alluded to by the previous post about helmet laws changing, torpedo7 have some tt helmets on special for a very good price.  $60 in fact.  there are 2 models the chrono and the speed demon.  a bunch of us bought the speed demon over a year ago for the very good price of $100, so the deal is even sweeter now.

my understanding (i.e. don’t rely on this in court) is that retailers can no longer sell the older standard helmets after 12th dec, but it is still ok to wear them…for now.

so if you are looking at going fast, grab this offer while it lasts.  click here.

  1. They only have large helmets left. Can anyone comment on the fit of these, or let me try one to see if a large will fit?

    Thanks

  2. Thanks Pete!!! I think it’s one size fits all. Anybody want to go for a combined order and look like a giant sperm too???

  3. Sorry Jordan, I was telling someone at work and they were in such as rush to get one they ordered one straight away and as a result, I ended up getting mine too and going halves with him for $9 postage fee. We did get the Carbon black to match the kit 🙂

  4. Torpedo 7 is NZ based where the new AS/NZS 2063:2008 standard is not mandatory as is in Australia so probably not the reason for the special. NZ retail regulations allows the sale of Helmets with any approved standard, AS/NZS, CE, SNELL or US standards are approved (i.e. does not actually need AS/NZS 2063 standard) by NZ retailers.
The reg body in NZ actually still has only the 1996 stardard on their website.

I got a cheap Giro TT helmet off T7 a few years back. I think the aerodynamics of the helmet did not increase but the shape of the helmet forces you to hold a good head up and straight position that makes your whole body more aerodynamic and efficient. If you drop your head and look down with a TT helmet you feel the drag in your head so you immediately look up and straight like you should.

The customer return policy at T7 is unfortunately better than my local bike shop of 15 years. So if wrong size just send it back, I have done that with a Full Face MTB Helmet from T7.
