pinjarra classic 2011

the pinjarra classic is one of those classic races on a classic course that defines it as a classic.  unlike many of the races around perth, this one actually is all about the hills.  there is some flat at the start and finish, but primarily it is all about climbing.  the course has changed this year and heads from pinjarra straight to dwellingup then around del park road.  it then crosses the highway and takes some back roads to finish just outside town.  a grade then do another lap of the same, while b and c grade finish after about 69kms.

a flyer can be found here, and registration can be found here (closes midnight tuesday).

for those that regularly do the sunday hills ride, this is the race for you.  it may come down to a sprint, but it is more like a schleck vs cadel sprint rather than a cav vs farrar.

the map is below but head to the mapmyride link to see the profile.
add your name to the comments if you are goign to race so we can organise some club stuff.

  1. I’ll be heading down and will race probably in A grade to get the 2 hills/laps in.

Thanks for the map, Pete. Map-my-ride says that you are only sharing this with “friends”, so you may get a few friend requests to see the big map and elevation etc.
The latter will be interesting to see for those who have only ridden the course in the other direction. It looks like there’s a lot more downhill and flat riding after the hill so it may come down to a bigger bunch sprint, which I probably won’t see.

NO Hills ride this morning!!! The less soft went up to York and rode 110 km mostly in the rain and totally into driving wind. The “Pretenders” were down to 5 after Dave was having a bad day (No Ghossein or Bolton) and let us go and most of us struggled at various times with the wind and/or hills (mainly me with 45 km/hr and the side-tail wind). We had a puncture which took a few minutes to fix and my Garmin net time was a few ticks over 3h01m. Hope SPR 1 survived intact. Can’t say that I found it enjoyable, but it was good preparation for the bigger races to come.

  2. Im up for it. I will be doing C grade as i am weak and sad, but would love the company of some other SRP-ers to make me feel strong and happy. I can think of a few names here to join me i.e all the main 1 & 2 guys and girls etc etc…

  3. my entry is in. forecast is for crap weather, so it should be a hoot. “b” grade if anyone wants to join me…belgium boys perhaps???
