ride routes 21st & 22nd january

shut up legs

what a start to the year for aussie cycling.  the nationals were awesome when i was over there and now it seems half of the rouleurs are hanging out in Radelaide for the tdu.  there have been more photos and stalker appearances so i will post them up as they make their way through.  i am still on holidays, but back in perth now so will make an appearance at some rides.  2 weeks off the bike, however, did mean that i had “fresh” legs for the first 10 minutes of the ride, before the “untrained” legs kicked in for the rest.  maybe starting with the thursday fast group was the wrong approach to take.  finally, not that i want to dicuss it, but shane warne is a dick.

crits – our next crit with the rccc will be on the 29th jan (next sunday) so we will be looking for volunteers again to ensure it runs smoothly.  the rccc will be running an aussie day crit on the tech park circuit, so if you want to race, then register now.

ride routes – new ride route for the main group this week so upload to your garmin, write notes on your stem or at least have a good look at the map beforehand.  there are a few left and right turns that you need to do so make sure that you know when they are or you could end up in joondalup.  sunday sees the next “berg” after the chook last week.  this one starts with f and ends with uckenberg.  if you haven’t done it before, then you have missed out on a marvelous ride.  cj sutton from the sky protour team did this ride with us a few years ago and even he said it was hard (mind you he was in the big ring doing strength efforts for most of the ride). EDIT – made a small change to the ride route for saturday.  after we cross the freeway we will then take the first left past IKEA and then onto scarbs road.  it seemed better than trying to change across 3 lanes to turn right.

    1. 5 mins with Lennie and I’m sure he would’ve been thinking just that! 😉
Or did meeting Jens in the flesh mute our little chatterbox? O_o

  1. went for a drive today and did the new saturday route. the majority of the ride will be on double lane roads and alexander drive has very few traffic lights. my suggestion would be to keep the groups together until alexander then the appropriate pace can be made. i also made a change of how we cross scarbs road, so if you have uploaded the route to garmin, you will have to do it again. the section along ameila street after yirigan drive is only single lane but there is a bike lane and there should be lots of room for cars to get passed. if the group is holding up traffic it needs to go single file as we don’t need a warnie incident. there are about 4 sections on this ride where the groups will get to stretch their legs, so it should be a fast ride. make sure you know where you are going tomorrow. there are a few left hand turns that are not at the ends of roads. if you are not aware of them you will just keep riding.

  2. AND …. Mr WARNE is now in Perth all weekend, so be wary of over-tanned self-important idiots trying to run over the peleton in their Mercedes’ ego boosters.
    Yeah yeah !!!

  3. Agree – good new Ride Route this morning – well done Pete!
It was a good mixture of some faster bits and a few short big chain ring power hills. The Main 1 group re-grouped nicely when split by hills and traffic lights.
    Thanks.

  4. the ride route suggestion came from patrick chan, so i can’t really take too much credit for it. it was good though as it had 4 different sections were you could do stretch the legs if you wanted to…or in my case, had the ability too. there was a lot of sitting in and missing turns on my behalf.
