Ride Routes 23rd – 29th August

CX Nationals — Last week saw nearly 30 representatives from WACX head to Ballarat for the AusCycling Cyclocross National Championships. SPR had 5 riders in the team. Vanessa Johnson, Mel Raybould, Anna Schwartz, Oscar Barratt and Tom Barratt.

True to the origins of the sport, Ballarat provided proper Belgian conditions, with drizzle and 5°C during the warm up. The course was fast and flowing, despite the surface conditions being a mix of slippery and bumpy in patches.

As a testament to the quality of racing we have here in Perth, the WACX team excelled across the day, securing six National Championships, including in the men’s elite.

SPR riders Oscar and Vanessa both managed to secure the National Championships in their age categories.

Tour de Cowaramup 2025 — The TdCowaramup is on again Sunday 12 October 2025; multiple distances/climbs and funds going to support local communities and charities. 

Start/ finish: Juniper Estate 

Organized by the Perth Integrated Events Team (PIET). Register via link below; three distances 60km (piccolo), 85km (medio) and 130km (gran) – $130 till 30th September, $155 thereafter.

We have accommodation for three nights at the Leeuwin Apartments as per last year, cost $110 pp; in Friday 10th October out Monday 13th October, shorter stay if preferred for the same price. The price increase follows a recent review by the provider after many years with no price increases.

Juniors Ride — On Saturday there will be no ride due to junior racing. X-Speed organised a race outside the Velodrome in Midland. This is the last racing event of the season/series. I hope many of you can attend and enjoy the day.

From the Ride Coordinator — Pick your ride groups wisely! These people are going to be your teammates for the ride and you will be wanting to work together to make the ride as smooth, safe and enjoyable as possible.

If gaps open up in your roll throughs, or riders are not rolling through, then please look around and moderate your pace to keep the group together. Don’t forget to call “clear” and “last wheel”.
