Rapha Women’s 100 — Calling all ladies members!  It’s that time of year again – the Rapha Women’s 100. It’s a worldwide event that brings together female cyclists to challenge themselves in great company.

SPR Chicks has organised a no drop ride that covers 100 kilometres around beautiful Perth on Sunday September 14

There will be a snack and water bottle fill up point at the 62km mark, with the lovely volunteers from SPR Chicks co-ordinating some sustenance for us.

There are plenty of bail out points for those who don’t feel up to riding the full distance.

Plan is to meet at 7.15am in Coode Street car park for a 7.20am roll out.

More details are in the event invite, including the route (on Strava here).

Register on the Facebook event so we can get an idea of numbers.

And if you can, sign up on Strava via the Rapha website to get a digital badge and a Rapha discount.

Any questions feel free to get in touch with SPR Chicks Co-ordinator Claire Tyrrell at women@southperthrouleurs.com.au cktyrrell@gmail.com.

The more the merrier. And may the weather Gods smile upon us! 😊

Tour de Cowaramup 2025 — The TdCowaramup is on again Sunday 12 October 2025; multiple distances/climbs and funds going to support local communities and charities.

Juniors Ride — I’d like to extend my congratulations to all the children who participated in the State Championship last Saturday. It was truly an incredible day, and I’m extremely proud of all our juniors for their dedication and effort.

A special thank you goes out to all the parents for your continued support during the training rides. Your commitment has been a key part of the amazing results achieved by our young riders.

We’re thrilled to celebrate our new U9 and U11 State Champions—Riley and Oscar Winson! Riley also placed second overall in the combined U9–U11 category, which is a fantastic achievement.

We also had Paige Verbiesen coming 2nd in a final exiting sprint in the U11 category.

In the U13 girls’ race, Claudia Firmani earned a gold medal. Although she was the only competitor in her category, she raced bravely while battling a fever and a bad cough—an effort that deserves recognition and admiration for her resilience.

The U13 boys faced a very competitive field. Liam and Jack gave it their all, and although they were among the youngest in the category, they showed great determination. Their potential is clear, and we’re confident they’ll shine next year.

In the U15 category, we had our cyclocross national champion, Oscar Barratt, in action. Oscar was undoubtedly the strongest rider in the peloton. Unfortunately, a tactical misstep and lack of support from others during the race prevented him from fully showcasing his abilities—but there’s no doubt about his talent.

Unfortunately, the weather looks very bad for the weekend. So, no official ride planned, but stay tuned and check the WhatsApp chat. I might organise a last minute ride on Sunday afternoon.

[ Editors note: To quote Oscar on his race: “The WA U15 road race was on yesterday, and after lots of work on the front, I managed to cramp in the last corner and limp over the line for 6th… lesson learnt for next time! Well done to the rest of the peloton… it was great fun being out there cutting laps together. ]

From the Ride Coordinator — It’s the start of the month so it is “Step Up Saturday!”

Take this opportunity to see where your riding is at and STEP UP and have a go at riding with that next group above your usual Saturday ride.

At SPR we encourage the size of Saturday groups to be around 15 riders, so as to limit the physical length of the group on the road. Longer groups are a greater disruption to traffic, and more susceptible to being split at lights. A compact group can be maintained by those on the front delaying their acceleration when exiting a corner.
